Bakkies doubtful for 3N opener

Bakkies doubtful for 3N opener

Bakkies Botha is unlikely to face the All Blacks after failing to train on Tuesday while Danie Rossouw has come through a fitness test.

Both locks were carrying niggles at the start of the week which prompted coach Peter de Villiers to postpone the announcement of his match 22 to Thursday. Rossouw completed a fitness test on Tuesday, but Botha didn’t train at all.

Botha is unlikely to face the All Blacks in Auckland, while Rossouw may feature from the bench. At this stage, Andries Bekker seems the favourite to pack down alongside Victor Matfield in the second row.

Tuesday’s training session also indicated that Wynand Olivier will start at No 12 with Jean de Villiers being retained on the right wing.

Up front, Jannie du Plessis and Gurthrö Steenkamp will pack on either side of captain John Smit.

    That would be stupid.

Div should play Jean at 12, BJ at 3 and Danie at 4.

Bakkies should play from the bench anyway.

Olivier is a better defender than De Villiers. Against Nonu we will need his physicality. He has handled Nonu with ease in the S14. And de Villiers height will be required at the back to field Carter’s high kicks.

Good move by Div, although I see Adnaan ******** is already sulking because his favourites have been left out.

Can’t say Adnaan’s surname on here, it seems. That guy who writes for the Cape Sun or Cape Argus or some other trashy paper from the South.

There’s also the need to give Morne one person next to him who he knows well, with FDP not playing. I also think it’s the right call to play Wynand at 12 on Saturday.

@Tacitus(Tacitus)-6: he missed 3 tackles in the 1st 12min of the French test…so much for the better defence…he brings nothing on attack..

Shame for Bakkies… is he heading down the same path as Ali Williams? seems to be missing a lot of rugby through injury, most of the S14 now the 3Ns…

  • 12.Ratel Brussow: Reply to this comment

Not a problem, although I think Pdv should start with Danie. Good move with WO, Jannie and Jdv at 14. I just hope he plays Kirchner at 15. Anybody still tuning Jannie should watch that French test again, getting scrummed hectically in 1st half with BJ on, then Jannie came on and we dominated. 1 game doesn’t make it I know, but Jannie has been on awesome form.

Apparently, Kirchner was running at 15 in practice.

    only in Oz .

Does anyone know how fast JDV actually is? I still think he’s not fast enough to play wing. Regarding inside centre, why not play de Jongh? There’s nothing wrong with his tackling and he formed a great combination with J Fourie in the S14. They caused major problems for all the NZ sides (although he’ll probably be a better 13 than 12).

  • 17.WestAussieBok: Reply to this comment

On attack I think JDV will play a roving role and go looking for work anyway. Wouldn’t surprise me if he replaces WO at centre later in the second half to make way for aplon on the wing.

@Tacitus(Tacitus)-6: WO is to defence as Bakkies is to international diplomacy….

Large portion of our starting 15 from last year are out, this gives us the opportunity to test our so called depth. I don’t rate Danie as world class, he comes off as incredibly lazy, but that could all change if he breaks a kiwi’s arm or two, just snap it I don’t mind either way.

  • 20.Kobus Kitty: Reply to this comment

Olivier better not be starting, he is predictable on attack and is only ever effective against cowards who can’t tackle.

  • 21.MdBulleaBokke: Reply to this comment

Well, guess what Kitty, he’s going to start.

Don’t compare Botha to Williams. Bakkies Botha has never been physically dominated in a one on one like Williams has (Chabal, Burger) That’s the difference between The Enforcer and a big kiwi.

@Skim(Skim)-2: Yeah any dolt would see that you would think except Mr Puff Divvy. Jean on wing the worst of the 3 errors.

Ok! so Steyn en Pienaar kan sê waar hulle wil speel, maar De Villiers moet speel waar hulle hom kies?

@poppa69(poppa69)-11: Maybe some karma coming his way? I like that he´s abrasive but at times he does some really unnecessary and dangerous stuff which we can all do without. Hopefully he learns a lesson from it.

I can only question what PdV is thinking. You have the centre combination that clean sweeped all NZ sides in the S14 perfectly fit and ready…

@Kobus Kitty(Kobus Kitty)-19: You dont rate Danie??? hahahahah man you obviousky havent been watching any rugby lately. He has been in superb form this year. Id play him ahead of Bakkies anyday at the moment. Bakkies needs to prove himself again.

Also this info aka “Open Secrets” are coming from an open training session that the Boks held on Tuesday in front of a few hundred fans and the kiwi media.

I was there, and the Boks did nothing really of substance – I would be surprised if this were the team to play on Saturday. Whats the point in delaying the naming of the side when you do that an hour later – I think this is a PDV trick.

    @Slumtown(Slumtown)-27:

He always plays well against NH opposition, played like a tired drunk for most of the Super 14 season, (yellow card on his 100th for two high tackles in a row) except at the business end where he did impress me.

He’s no Botha though. Bakkies Botha makes the opposition look around and think twice before entering the ruck, they’ll make sure they don’t have any limbs hanging out otherwise they may suffer 6 months out and a lot of pain. I’ll say this now and I mean no offense to Botha, he is a long cockroach and an asset to any team – even if he is just back from injury. I used to play like him, obviously not to such an effective extent but certainly I did earn a reputation.

    1. Keep Kirchner on the bench
    2. Play de Vil on centre or dont play him at all
    3. Im a Olivier sceptic, but his attacking game improved imensly this year (he can pass both ways and skip pass now, and he is running good lines)
    4. Play Danie , power sub Bekker

Lol Kobus used to play like Bakkies? I was in the WC95 squad!! Really I was. Danie is the most gifted utility forward of the game, Bakkies got his arse handed to him last year by Harinoduquy. Went to the bloodbin 5mins in

    @Partizan(Partizan)-32:

Was that before or after he pushed Lionel Nallet on his arse and walked all over him like a corpse? Being a utility player means you aren’t good enough to nail down a position, dur??!

Really hope Danie starts. He deserves it. He is in awesome form. I really hope though that Bakkies gets over all these niggles. We need Bakkies at the WC, fully fit.

Why Pdivvie wants to play Jean on the wing I do not know though. I am happy to have Olivier at inside centre, based on form and defense, but then rather have Jean on the bench and Hougaard at 14.

Danie is a better lock than Bakkies

@Boksarenumber1(Boksarenumber1)-37: Waarop baseer jy daai statement dan nou tjommel?
Danie is currently in excellent form, but an in form Bakkies is the best number 4 lock in the world playing today. His ruck clearances, power behind the front row in the scrums and general dominance in the rucks and mauls is unrivaled and key to the normal playing patern. I am a big Danie fan but Bakkies is the business at 4 when fit.
