Lawrence out of Bok clash
7 Jul 2010
Bryce Lawrence is injured and he won’t referee the Boks’ Test against Australia in Brisbane.
Irishman George Clancy will take his place for the last match of the Boks’ overseas tour. Clancy’s last international was between the All Blacks and Wales at Carisbrook last month, where his first half mistake at a ruck led to a breakaway try for the hosts at a vital time in the match.
This will be Clancy’s first Tri-Nations encounter and he’ll have to adapt to the fast nature of matches at Suncorp Stadium, while he last refereed the Boks against Italy at Newlands in 2008 – when they won 26-0.

God help both teams. Clancy is not a very good referee. I looked at the appointments yesterday, and although I like every other South African, we all hate Stuart Dickinson. But his form in the S14 was very, very, very impressive. I really wonder what has prevented him from progressing. He was probably the best ref during the S14. Obviously Paddy O’Brien still has something personal against him.

Bryce tends to have a good match until about midway through the second half where he snaps like a viper and then makes all manner of strange decisions

For a moment there I thought you meant Lawrence Sephaka….

Thank god – Bryce Lawrence was the worst referee in the super 14 this year. Having said that, he generally hates Australian teams so we probably would have gone ok with him in charge. The aussies will be very happy with this news.

@jeest(jeest)-6: he’s been **** in the 6N too. Can’t believe Alan Lewis is reffing the opening NZ/Boks match, he’s useless.

@Big Hit(Big Hit)-7: There is some real garbage floating around the refereeing pools the last couple of years.

I like referees
They only come up to your knees
But they’re cute and friendly
And ready to please…
(apologies to M.Python)
Have your say
