Graeme do SA proud
13 Jul 2010
Graeme College reached the final of an international schools rugby tournament Down Under.
The Eastern Cape side won eight of their nine matches against teams from Australia and New Zealand, losing only in the final to the hosts, Brisbane Boys College.
‘It was great,’ Graeme coach Brendan Grant told the Daily Dispatch. ‘There is a lot of interaction between the three countries on a rugby front.’
Captain Wikus Coetzee said that the tour was a ‘fantastic’ experience and that ‘it was great meeting new people and experiencing new cultures’.
Coetzee explained that the team was tired after playing two games a day, and attributed their loss in the final to the tough schedule.

@charo(charo)-1:
There seems to be no rhyme or reason, much as was the case with SA’s entry for this year’s Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament in Japan. SA sent Marais Viljoen High School (who?), who finished 4th.
From the Wikipedia article on the comp:
“Participation is by invitation only, and the overseas schools selected by their respective unions to represent their country are generally expected to be of a high standard and among the top five in each country.”
Champion??Hamilton Boys’ High School??(New Zealand)
2nd Truro College (England)
3rd The Hills Sports High School (Australia)
4th Marais Viljoen High School (South Africa)

Nice to see the talent not only coming from the Free State and Pretoria. Well done Graeme College, Brendan Grant and Pierre Jacobs.
