Fourie favoured for Leopards clash

Deon Fourie is likely to start against the Leopards this Friday as WP coach Allister Coetzee looks to give the second-choice hooker a run.

Mass changes are not expected for this clash, as Coetzee hopes to build some continuity and secure WP’s first four-try bonus of the campaign. Several fringe players, however, could play off the bench.

Coetzee included a few WP U21 players in Monday’s training session, namely, wing JJ Engelbrecht, flank Yaya Hartzenberg, No 8 Nick Koster and scrumhalf Louis Schreuder. He is expected to name some of those players in the reserves when the team is announced on Tuesday.

Lions lose two

The Lions will be without Wikus van Heerden and JC Janse van Rensburg when they head to Kimberley this weekend.

Van Heerden returned from injury against WP, but suffered a recurrence of an arm ailment and has been ruled out of the match against Griquas. Word from the Lions’ camp is Janse van Rensburg is battling with an ankle injury.

In the absence of Van Heerden, John Mitchell could hand the captaincy to Franco van der Merwe. The Lions coach is also likely to pick one of Burton Francis or Elton Jantjes at No 10.
