Interesting article in the latest SA Rugby magazine on how "home-grown" the top SA schools talent actually is.I was always under the impression that Grey College nurtured and developed their own players and this made the fact that they are usually on top of the pile even more impressive. They also entrenched this viewpoint by their adopted logo at a recent schools festival (perhaps they use it all the time?) which read ,"We don't buy Green Machines ,we grow them" which was aimed directly at Glenwood who have in the past few years bought most of their top players.
Well the truth is out.Of all the top schools over the last 5 years ,Grey College have the most number of 1st XV players who have only been at the school for 3 years.I think the number for 2010 was only 8 of the 15.The rest have come from all over the country but particularly from the E Cape.A couple of players have only been at Grey for 1 year.So they identify their weak areas and go out and buy players to fill the gap.The headmaster stated too often that they do not buy at all,but there are many ways to skin a cat.I am sure the Old Boys play a big part thus keeping "school policy" clean.
Funny,I have now lost all my respect for Grey!

All down to their discipline.
Imagine the only rule is that Grey boys dont need rules. says alot for their attitude.
