Something special

Patrick Lambie is the future of South African rugby.
With the 19-year-old Sharks star set to tour with the Springboks in November, SA Rugby magazine looks at his rise to prominence and the debate surrounding where he should play.
Lambie himself says he is in no rush to pick a number, despite what happened to two other Sharks players – Ruan Pienaar and Frans Steyn – when they were labeled utility backs.
‘I’ve enjoyed 15, 12 and 10 and I don’t yet know which one I’m best at or which one I enjoy the most. But with a bit more time and experience I’ll be able to decide on a position, put my mind to it and stay there,’ he says.
‘I have honestly enjoyed all three positions, and maybe it helped that I played 12 after fullback before moving to 10, but the most important thing is that I’ve played a sequence of games in each position. I haven’t played one game here, one game there, and then gone back to the previous position.’
SA Rugby magazine also speaks to Sharks coach John Plumtree and former flyhalf Joel Stransky about Lambie’s future.
Also in the new issue:
– In what he calls his ‘most honest interview ever’, Luke Watson reflects on the mistakes he’s made, his controversial Springbok call up, and the move to Bath that has reinvigorated his career
– The Springboks let themselves down during the home leg of the Tri-Nations – on and off the field
– Allister Coetzee or Heyneke Meyer will replace Peter de Villiers as Springbok coach. SA Rugby magazine examines the candidates’ credentials
– Former England centre Will Greenwood on how this year’s Tri-Nations launched a rugby revolution
– Robbie Deans on the Wallabies’ progress, the new law interpretations, his relationship with Graham Henry and if he’d coach a South African side
– Why Richie McCaw is the most dominant rugby player on the planet
– Lionel Mapoe says he left the Cheetahs because they betrayed him. We find out more from the winger and speak to Free State president Harold Verster and Sarpa CEO Piet Heymans.
– The Springbok Women will not be a force on the international stage until they are properly conditioned and the team is selected on merit
– The Bledisloe Cup provides a very different spectator experience to that of a Tri-Nations match involving the Springboks
– Several South African schools claim their players are being poached by other institutions. SA Rugby magazine investigates
– At the USA’s West Point military academy, rugby is considered the ideal preparation for the controlled chaos of the battlefield

He is awesome talent but we have seen this so many times only for the senior system to break any talent they have and turn them into kick and chase *******.
He will struggle with EJantjies playing so well, so flyhalf is no. Fullback yes, centre no as he does not have the pace. Probably 12!

both lambie and jantjies showed why they are not yet fit for the idolisation that goes on in saffa rugby.

PL and EJ will get there. Loved the way how Carlos was couching Elton at any opportunity he got on Sat. EJ’s kicking was off but he had the sharks guessing all the time…..was he gonna kick, switch, grubber, pass…etc. Not scared of attacking the line and he finds those half gaps and creates opportunities for the guys on his outside.

Also noticed how the bulls supporters will criticize Lambie and Jantjies at every chance they get. They’r so worried that at last we may have a proper flyhalf and that Morne ‘jannie de beer’ Steyn may lose his place.
27 Sep 2010, 08:18 am
SA is stuck with Morne Stain till a new coach (Except Heyneke Meyer) is appointed
27 Sep 2010, 08:20 am
@Mighty Horua(Mighty Horua)-7: LMAO…EJ moet dan uit die son bly
27 Sep 2010, 08:23 am
@Mighty Horua(Mighty Horua)-17: morne will shine while du preez feeds him…hougaard will get there and 9 & 10 is not our problem! I think with all these moerse okes up north we would’ve dominated scrums but that is still our weakness
27 Sep 2010, 08:27 am
@mountaingoat(mountaingoat)-19: Hell even Benn Robinson instil fear into the Afriforum okes up North

@mountaingoat(mountaingoat)-19: Apart from the scrum, the lack of creativity at 10 is why SA cant beat EU countries (EOYT) on a regular basis

Johannesburg – Former Springbok player Andre Venter on Sunday criticised civil rights group AfriForum for launching the “Stop Absa Quotas” campaign.
In an interview with Rapport newspaper, Venter said transformation was a reality and although he did not support racial quotas in sport, it was necessary to develop all players.
“AfriForum is placing unnecessary emphasis on some issues. They are worse than the ANC Youth League. They think the only way to handle these things is to create controversy, but it can backfire,” said Venter.
“What would AfriForum had done if the sponsor was SAB – would everyone then have stopped drinking beer?”
AfriForum launched the campaign against Springbok sponsor Absa after the banking group’s deputy chief executive Louis von Zeuner sent an SMS to SA Rugby Union boss Oregan Hoskins stating: “Regan, I think you should write to the major unions on black players – judging from today’s games Lions 2, Bulls 1, Cheetahs 2 – they are not respecting the spirit and goals of transformation. Louis.”

Dit is mos hoe PDV ook dinge doen (F Steyn meeting) lyk my die soort ding is in hul bloed :
Phokeng – Earl Rose has done it again.
The Lions player and his younger brother Jody deserted the Lions camp at the Platinum International Sevens Tournament here and returned to Johannesburg without permission.
The brothers were part of a Lions team that also included other contracted and Super 14 players Robert Kruger, Shandré Frolick and Chris Jonck.
The Lions team lost to the Sevens Springboks and @lantic Invitational side on Saturday. Earl Rose struggled with his form, and was involved in a stiff-arm incident against an opponent.
The Springbok, in the news earlier this month because he did not want to represent the Leopards as a loan player, apparently had had enough and decided to return to Johannesburg with his brother.
Lions coach Jorrie Muller received an SMS from both brothers: “They said that they are sorry about their performances and felt that their form was not up to standard. That is why they went home,” Muller told Sport24.
“I tried to phone them to find out what was going on, but they did not answer my calls. We therefore had to continue with only 10 players. To say that I’m angry and disappointed with their behaviour is to put it mildly.”
Muller said his team had been picked at short notice and it was hoped that they would provide good opposition for the Sevens Springboks with a view to the South Africans leaving for the Commonwealth Games in a week or so.
This may well signal the end of the road for the Rose brothers. Jody has played little this year due to a knee injury, while Earl has played club rugby.
As contracted players they had to play at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. However, the chances are now slim that the union will honour or extend their contracts.
Muller said he would definitely recommend action against them.
