The Springbok Sevens side beat England 17-14 in the third-place play-off at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Boks began the day with a narrow 10-7 win over Scotland in the quarter-finals, but were outplayed by Australia in the semis. Mistakes and poor defence contributed to a 17-7 defeat, but it was important that they made it to the last four.

While they couldn’t contest the final, they could fight for a medal in the third-place play-off. A determined England outfit overpowered them initially, leading 14-5 at the break. But a late comeback ensured Paul Treu’s charges won the match and a bronze medal for South Africa.

In the final, New Zealand beat Australia 24-17. The Aussies led 17-7 at one stage, but the Kiwis proved irresistible in the second half.

    So I dont get it…

    The kiwi’s pack Super14 players/full All Balcks players into their:
    Hosea Gear, Liam Messam, Zac Guilford, Ben Smith

    Aussies too with a couple:
    Lachie Turner, Nick Cummins

    And us saffas leave our best players like Stick and Mbiyozo at home playing in the first division of the CC?

    We had no chance. We should have sent one or three big names…
    Pity our Unions are so selfish..

    Paul Treu has done a lot of good for 7′s in SA but I really think its time for a change now.

    @WP_(WP_)-51: the 2 mentioned players (SA) chose to opt out of 7′s rugby earlier this year / before the season

    Point is why we dont send a couple of big name to boost our 7′s chances…

    NZ had Adma Thomson too but he pulled out through injury
