Richie gets deserved recognition

The All Blacks claimed the top three IRB awards on Wednesday night with Richie McCaw being named the 2010 Player of the Year.
McCaw became the first player to win the award three times having also received it in 2005 and 2009.
The All Blacks were named Team of the Year for the fourth time in six years and Graham Henry got the Coach of the Year award for a record fourth time (he also won it in 2005, 2006 and 2008).

Never has one man in the history of rugby had an influence on a single game other than the ref.
Most of it illegal but he gets away with so laud him for outsmarting and out physcing the ref. Having Paddie as your backer does help.

Brilliant to see someone exploit the rules as well as the Exalted One. Has to be the most watched man on a rugby pitch. Anyway, there are numerous legitimate methods of slowing down the opposition’s ball – check the rule book. There is no God-given right for any team to allow the other to have quick ball. It’s the duty of players to legally slow down the ball to allow defences to be set. McCaw is possibly is the master at contesting the breakdown – altho Pocock is lurking. As McCaw has stated – he pushes the boundaries to test the ref a few times and then it’s game on.
From the last four games McCaw was within the first three to the breakdown 82 times. Lately he has been working in concert with No6 and No8 so as to cut down his work rate – obviously feeling more confident with the abilities of his fellow players.
Calling him a cheat is purely sour grapes. If it was a valid comment then it would rest with the ref to sort out, but oddly, its the same old, same old bleat with each game. Perhaps a peruse of the rule book would assist those who lack the knowledge.
Nice to see the ABs go through the NH tour unbeaten with a basic game plan. Nothing flash as the WC moves have been put on ice.
Did notice their D, when their line was breached, how the scrambling defence each lined up an opposition support player, leaving one AB to take the ball carrier and the scrambling defence to crunch the opposition support player once he received the ball. Nice.
