Delport back for Blitzboks
8 Dec 2010
SA Sevens coach Paul Treu has made three changes for the George leg of the Sevens World Series.
Paul Delport replaces Renfred Dazel, who suffered concussion against the USA last Saturday in Dubai. Jacques Engelbrecht replaces Lubabalo Mtembu and MJ Mentz makes way for Steven Hunt.
Treu said he was pleased with the competition for places.
‘Apart from Renfred, everyone has a clean bill of health. The team is upbeat and really looking forward to playing in George.
‘We now have much stronger competition for places in the squad and that can only be good for the individuals as well as the team.
‘The major task for us as a management is to keep the players calm and focussed. It will be the first home tournament for many of them and that in itself brings added pressure. We just want the guys to relax and to enjoy the experience.’
Springbok Sevens squad: Kyle Brown (c), Frankie Horne, Boom Prinsloo, Sibusiso Sithole, Jacques Engelbrecht, Paul Delport, Cecil Afrika, Branco du Preez, Pieter Engelbrecht, Mark Richards, Steven Hunt, Bernado Botha.

Thankyou for the excellent article Simon.
Is there any chance you can tell us which provinces these dragons represented in the SA inter-provincial sevens, if any?

Decent 15′s player was Delport,still only 24/25 if I’m not mistaken.Def better than Tewis De Bruyn
Where is Fabian Juries?? He came bk towards end of last yr & looked like she hadn’t skipped a beat.If he hadn’t taken a 4-5yr hiatus to play 15′s,Faba would be the greatest 7′s player ever to play the game.He is still in top 5 leading try scorers after 5yrs???ridiculous

Wish more 15′s players had experience of 7′s. It improves your skills immeasurably particularly backline players.
Our guys still battle to beat a player one-on-one let alone a one-on-two situation in the 15′s set-up. In 7′s, it’s expected of you.
And defence, well there is hardly a cover defence to speak of. So tackling is a non-negotiatable.
And a great way to improve your pre-season fitness and sharpness.

@Transformation :
Sho sbali
Really should go to a Province thatll use his abilities…Would play him at 15 ahead of Daniller or at least if he’s on the wing have him alternate on attack coming from 15.Coming on to the ball there are few better

@mshiniwami :
Juries was really found wanting while he played for WP.
I recall a game against the Bulls in particular which proved without a shadow of a doubt that he is past it.
His pace has clearly gone and he aint getting younger either!
Isnt he 31 already??

Juries best 7′s player?? no way … that goes to Stefan basson!! by miles … at least for SA!!

@Tomatoboy_ralepelle :
Stefan Basson doesnt even come close to Faba.
Just take a look at the IRB 7′s try scoring tallies…
Santiago Gomez Cora ARG 230
Ben Gollings ENG 203
Fabian Juries RSA 179
Mikaele Pesamino SAM 155
Uale Mai SAM 132
And Juries went out of 7′s for about 3-4 yrs…
Basson aint nowhere,not even in top scorers points wise.
Try again bud.

@wpw :
Still believe WP missed a beat with not using him last yr.He had an outstanding yr for Cheetahs before WP move where he didnt play a single S14 game..Persisted with that lard arse on the wing….The Fijian
wheels still there aplenty mate,was smoking guys on the 7′s circuit at the end of last yr.Ask Aussie Luke morahan who is regarded one of the fastest if not fastest Aussie player.Faba showed him dust
Have your say
