Lions target Beast
15 Dec 2010
The Lions are chasing Springbok prop Beast Mtawarira’s signature ahead of the 2011 season.
Private investors have provided the Lions with a substantial financial boost, and they now have the cash to attract big name players to Johannesburg.
They’ve already signed fringe Bok Bandise Maku and promising wing Lionel Mapoe, and are rumoured to be in talks with World Cup-winning Boks Butch James and Frans Steyn. Now Mtawarira is being mentioned as a possible recruit.
According to Beeld, Mtawarira has been made a financial offer that could prove difficult to refuse. The complication is that he’s bound to a three-year contract with the Sharks, having signed a contract-extension in October.
The Durban-based union are responsible for Mtawarira’s development, having recruited him from Zimbabwe and moved him from loose forward to prop. The Sharks are hoping that Mtawarira shows some loyalty and honours his contract.
