McCaw staying in NZ?

McCaw staying in NZ?

Richie McCaw has intimated that he desires to continue playing in New Zealand after the World Cup.

It is widely known that many All Blacks are weighing up lucrative offers to join European clubs after the global showpiece in 2011, but McCaw suggested he may not be part of the exodus.

At present playing abroad precludes New Zealanders from All Blacks selection, and McCaw was mindful of this.

‘I’m having a really good think about it and I’ve always said enjoyment is the key,’ McCaw told the Sunday Star Times.

‘I loved it this year, I loved running out for an international and playing for the All Blacks, there’s nothing better. So I want to keep going. I’m talking to the union about what they want from me and what I want. If we can come to an agreement I’d love to carry on because I’m enjoying this.

‘I’ve made no secret of it that I love playing in New Zealand and my desires to play overseas have never been that great. Those desires change as you move on in your career, but you can’t beat running out in front of 80,000 people at the Millennium Stadium or somewhere else and you’d be a mug to not want to do it for as long as you can.’

Everyone and their dog knows that the real money is in Australia. Quite a few Kiwis are plying their rugby trade away from the Land of the Rain Cloud.

Why? For him to captain the biggest choke in the history of the RWC?

  • 15.>^..^< katman: Reply to this comment

He’s only decided to stay on because he really, really wants to win a WC medal. And he knows in his bones that 2011 is not going to happen.

  • 16.toddke: Reply to this comment

I am sure he can still play overseas and play for the AB’s. Although it is AB policy I am sure they will make exception for him, just as they would for DC. these guys are invaluable to the AB cause.

To me his statements reflect that he is weighing up his options and perhaps doing a bit of bartering to get best of both worlds.

This guy still has a good few seasons left in those legs and might as well go line his pockets as with Rugger you are only 1 practice or game away from career ending injury. he isn’t a mercenary either, so no one can knock him if he decides to go collect some big sheets.

  • 18.spartan: Reply to this comment

Going by most theories on this site , if the Blacks don’t choke next yr , we {NZ} would have dominated world rugby for three yrs 2008,2010,2011, plus the almost , obligatory 3 yrs between 2011 and 2015 , thats 6 yrs domination , whoops what if we win in 2015 you can add on the next 3 yrs leading up to the following world cup , and so on , and so on and so on . Don’t hold your breath there SLAPPES cause it’s a coming , then we will see and hear the biggest choke of all , South Africans choking on their jealousy

  • 19.Slappes: Reply to this comment

Got one. Easy peasy. ps Domination doesnt count at the RWC mate. One game at a time and pray you guys avoid the french/ aussies / sa.

  • 20.spartan: Reply to this comment

One game at a time , 2007 was 3yrs ago and you still go on about it 2009 was so last yr and yet you guys still harp on about that too , your comments are about prediction not ,as ,you state , one game at a time , SLAPPES all hot air no substance , mind you ,I suppose your not too bad for , a 5 year old

Somehow I get the feeling that coming up against ‘sa’ is not going to bother them too much.

  • 22.Slappes: Reply to this comment

Another one. I digress, it is an absolute certaintity that the ABs WILL choke next year. Spectacularly at that. Cant wait. Accept it Spartysparkplug, you little sheepfondler you.

  • 23.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

No, the choking quota will be fully used up by the yarpies who have spent four years fooling themselves that they’ve been worthy “world champions” when, in fact, they’ve been just as big a disgrace as England was after 2003.

ABs will win RWC and live up to their towering reputation as perennially having the best team in the history of test rugby.

    Bet on it.

RWC 2011 happens in the future, not in the past. Past records don’t count a jot for what is to come in 2011. It’s a new show and the ABs are looking unbeatable.

The Boks, on the other hand, can’t even beat an egg. Or Scotland.

@Great White Shark : You need almost six Rand to buy one NZ dollar. Wages in NZ$ are paid in a real first-world currency, not in funny money like in Africa.

Lets go SLAPPES , lets have a healthy debate, You know , based on things you don’t seem to consider important , aka , the truth , facts . Leave the name calling for the under 10s

@spartan : Dont worry about ol floppy. I’d be pissed to if my peep were “SLAP”.

Worse thing about this blog/internet in general. Anonymity brings out the inner douche in us all.

Just look at Tackler here. His mom must be so proud, I’m sure she tells him every night when she tucks him and reads him a fairy-tail of how McCaw and SBW will lift the 2011 World Cup trophy :)

    Just kidding off course.

NZL are favorites. It will be tough to take them at home. Once off games are a great equalizer, the weaker teams will raise themselves for the NZL games.

I predict they will win. They kept Graham Henry – good move, he’s been there done that – he would have learn’t from last world cup!

They have Dan “The Man” Carter and McCaw, with a team with no real weaknesses. They just need to take it one game at a time and forget about the Cup.

  • 27.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

  • 38.spartan: Reply to this comment

Yeah , SASORI your right , anonymity brings out the inner douche in us all . Even so , another world cup rolls around and once again we’re [NZ] favorites, the reality for NZ is , come quarter finals and onwards the favorites tag becomes meaningless , slip up here and your gone regardless . Next year should see the return of Fourie Du Preez , he is to the Boks what Dan Carter is to the Blacks , world class danger , with him back the Boks will again be the real deal . Australia will be firing , and , as we know so well , the French can have their moments so although we are favorites , lets wait till the fat lady sings

@Mary : @Mary : But it’s not just “a few games”, is it? It’s the World Cup. And it has them well and truly spooked. It’s like a golfer winning a bunch of week-in week-out tournaments, and not even making the cut when it comes to the majors. And we all know the majors count.

  • 42.Mary: Reply to this comment

I still think winning the world cup doesn’t make you the best team in the world. Spain certainly have proved that. I know it sounds like sour grapes, but if NZ win the world cup, I would still have the same opinion. Aren’t Wales the 7′s world champs?

  • 43.>^..^< katman: Reply to this comment

@Mary : Just like winning the 100m sprint at the Olympics doesn’t make you the “best sprinter in the world”. Or does it?

Someone needs to knock off one of our tinpot ‘leaders’ so that it goes back to 10 Rant to 1 US.
