The new face of Super Rugby
20 Dec 2010
Find out everything you need to know about the expanded competition in the bumper 156-page issue of SA Rugby magazine.
We kick off our Super Rugby preview section with an idiot’s guide to the new format (if you still don’t know how it works after reading this, we can’t help you). That’s followed by three pages on each South African team (how they are shaping up, player signings/losses, fixtures, previous log finishes, numbers that matter etc) and one page on each of the Kiwi and Aussie sides.
Also in the new issue:
– The Springboks failed to make any progress on their end-of-year tour
– Is Victor Matfield too conservative to be Bok captain?
– The All Blacks capped off an outstanding 2010 with their third Grand Slam in five years
– The Wallabies were frustratingly inconsistent on their end-of-year tour
– If England are to seriously challenge for the World Cup, they will have to stand up to the big beasts of the game
– Behind the swagger lies a secret diary that is driving England wing Chris Ashton to new heights
– Why the Barbarians are still relevant in the professional era
– Yet again the World Cup schedule helps the big nations and hinders the smaller ones. Why can’t the IRB make rugby’s showpiece event fair to all?
– Plus: Why Stuart Abbott is back in SA, Tim Noakes on the Boks ‘doping’ controversy, Heinrich Brussow’s injury battle, SA players in Europe

@>^..^< katman :
Was that bab oon in that Cat in the Hat book type long hat of those Vaalie colours of red and white on day 2 not you?
What a pathetic human you ‘cut’!!
5 Jan 2011, 12:30 pm
@cane : Happy? We gave that one to you, otherwise you’d dream up some conspiracy theory about firewalls and corrupt moderators.
5 Jan 2011, 12:30 pm
@E.T. : Um no. Read my post again. I specifically said AB was a bad idea. Amla rather. Don’t be so quick on the draw. Premature articulation on your part that time. Don’t worry. Apparently it happens to everyone at some stage. Nothing to be embarressed about
@gunther : 1990 Interresting observation. I wasn’t aware of that.
@Bill Reyts : And to you too fella!. Lets hope it’s a good one all round! I agree with you on the spinner issue. I haven’t seen that much of Tahir, is he that good?
5 Jan 2011, 12:31 pm
@E.T. : No, you’re confusing me with one of yours. Now go and shine my fcking shoes.
5 Jan 2011, 12:39 pm
@E.T. :
If you’re going to reply to a post, make sure you get the correct person.
5 Jan 2011, 12:41 pm
@>^..^< katman :
It’s no fun without Skim.
(sad face)
5 Jan 2011, 12:43 pm
Yours???
Amazing powers of misconception.
5 Jan 2011, 12:45 pm
@E.T. : Misconception? Would that be the moment you were spawned?
5 Jan 2011, 12:47 pm
@cane : Happy 2011, Cane.
That’s if 2011 can ever be happy with the humiliation of a quarter final exit on home WC turf.
But perhaps it will be good in other ways. You Petunias might be lovely this year.

@stormersboy :
@1993. AB has stated that he doesn’t really want the gloves. And he’s more intent on the no.4 batting slot once it is vacated by Kallis. His major goal is to become the premier batsman in world cricket.
5 Jan 2011, 12:49 pm
@E.T. :
Easy ET and Katmandu.
This is the “OFF Season”.
A time to lick our wounds, restore our vigour and prepare ourselves for the tumultuous months ahead.
You are getting ahead of yourselves.
And one thing I DON’T like to see,
is a Saffa get a head start.
5 Jan 2011, 12:51 pm
@stormersboy :
I see you took a bullet on my behalf. ET owes you an apology.
5 Jan 2011, 12:58 pm
@>^..^< katman :
What will be will be.
One bad day at the Office and it’s all over.
Ritchie, Ted and the Team have given us a great run.
So what the *****.
A WC would be a bonus.
I Think you Saffas have far more to be concerned about.
KRUSTY!
5 Jan 2011, 13:00 pm
@I am a stormer :
No bullet is wasted on a brokeback.

@I am a stormer : 2010 I’ve heard this over the years. It’s a pity. I like AB, he’s class, but he does like to play his shots, which means that he does give his wicket away cheaply sometimes. I hope he does grow into the premier SA Batsman, I’d like nothing more, although Amla us having a great time of it as well (particularly last year).
@I am a stormer : 2012. Yeah, ET has a thing for my posts. He likes to jump on them and make sure I’m being consistant. Not sure why but he loves to be all cryptic on occasion too. All sorts I guess. I really prefer it though when people have something to say about others’ postings, that they at least have an alternative opinion of their own too.
5 Jan 2011, 13:05 pm
@cane :
Easy now bobby.
5 Jan 2011, 13:07 pm
@cane :
nice one Caner….
5 Jan 2011, 13:08 pm
@stormersboy :
His first post of the year a couple of days ago was all aggro. Must be unhappy with what the missus got him for Xmas, I guess.
5 Jan 2011, 13:18 pm
@I am a stormer : Post 2018.
Not sure if your post was directed at ET or Myself.
But I got a set of red car seat covers.
What the phoook does “She” think I drive, a phookin Ferrari.
Mind you………………….. my Toyota Corolla…………………………………..was voted “Car of Decade” here in NZ.
5 Jan 2011, 13:23 pm
@cane : We were talking about ET. There you go again, it’s always about you isn’t it?
And yes, Corollas are good cars….but not with seat covers on.
5 Jan 2011, 13:31 pm
oh hell….boucher…we need you now mate…big time!
5 Jan 2011, 13:31 pm
Prince out. Now the cat’s amoung the pigeons…..
5 Jan 2011, 13:43 pm
@cane :
It definitely wasn’t directed at you, mate.
You’re one of the good guys.
5 Jan 2011, 13:45 pm
@cane :
And please don’t tell me you’ve got fur on the dashboard.
The fur belongs on the back seat.
5 Jan 2011, 13:46 pm
@I am a stormer : Or under the missus’ arms…
5 Jan 2011, 13:53 pm
@stormersboy : (and the Other Brokeback).
This Cricket Test is looking precarious for you Okes.
So what is the SAFFA backup plan this time:
- The Indians have stomach’s or iron, Suzie cannot help.
- A gold watch or two for the Umpires………..that don’t cut it anymore, The Bookies will be offering 400 times that.
- Cheating, 47 different camera angles negate this possibility.
- Pitch Invasion orchestrated by Pieter van Zyl. Worth a try. The Indians would, if they could.
- Drug test the Entire Indian Squad. At least one of them will have a trace of beetlenut.
Well …………………………….I suppose you could just bowl them out.

5 Jan 2011, 13:56 pm
@cane : It might only be 150, but we have them in the bag, plus a few more to come. The injuns must still deal with Steyn power.
As a last resort we might try “Justice4Kallis” arm bands though. The way the injuns ran him off the road in his Audi is unforgivable.
5 Jan 2011, 13:57 pm
@cane : Never underestimate the tail Caner. It ain’t over till your missus sings….
5 Jan 2011, 14:02 pm
@cane :
We tried the “delhi belly” routine but they’ve all got cast iron guts. You can’t do that to guys who eat curried eggs for breakfast.
But, seriously, credit to the Indians so far. Now we know why they’re no. 1 in the world. But it isn’t over till it’s over.
5 Jan 2011, 14:03 pm
we nail a 180 lead we can win this damn thing
5 Jan 2011, 14:05 pm
@grant10 : At the rate at which your “comfortable” defendable total is creeping down, we should declare any minute now.
5 Jan 2011, 14:07 pm
@stormersboy :
Now that Stormer ……………………….was a great post.
I’m tempted.
But I won’t show Mrs cane Your post.
I got enough problems with the neighbours without mrs cane singing Opera.
5 Jan 2011, 14:07 pm
@grant10 :
from your lips to g ods ears.
And Happy Birthday for tomorrow, Grant if I don’t see you around.
5 Jan 2011, 14:09 pm
@cane : LOL
5 Jan 2011, 14:12 pm
Any minute now, the missus is going to drag me off to the movies.
And that ET character gave me an idea of what to see.
Can only be “Little Fockers.”
5 Jan 2011, 14:16 pm
@I am a stormer : he he he. At least the shopping centres are air conditioned. At least that’s the excuse my wife always gives….
5 Jan 2011, 14:18 pm
@stormersboy :
Cheers for a while. Will catch up later
5 Jan 2011, 14:19 pm
Goodnight Katmandu, Storm Boy’s and et al.
Anything is possible!

5 Jan 2011, 14:21 pm
Adios Cane.
Anything is possible indeed. If we get to 220, it’s as good as ours.
5 Jan 2011, 14:26 pm

5 Jan 2011, 14:41 pm
indians will start worrying once we lead by 180…..get to 200 they really concerned …220 its a sweat time…250 we win!
5 Jan 2011, 14:42 pm
kallis for president!
5 Jan 2011, 14:42 pm
Given that we are 170 odd ahead, there’s every chance we’ll get to a lead of over 200, but I just don;t think that’ll be enough. We need 250 + IMO.
5 Jan 2011, 14:44 pm
boys from the Warriors helping SA to a series win : Boucher & Kallis … Warriors, the best cricket franchise in the world ..
5 Jan 2011, 14:44 pm
@cane : Not bad, Cane. Very catchy ditty. And the lead singer reminds me a bit of David Byrne (looks wise, not in sound).
5 Jan 2011, 14:45 pm
what a player kallis is
