The new face of Super Rugby

The new face of Super Rugby

Find out everything you need to know about the expanded competition in the bumper 156-page issue of SA Rugby magazine.

We kick off our Super Rugby preview section with an idiot’s guide to the new format (if you still don’t know how it works after reading this, we can’t help you). That’s followed by three pages on each South African team (how they are shaping up, player signings/losses, fixtures, previous log finishes, numbers that matter etc) and one page on each of the Kiwi and Aussie sides.

Also in the new issue:

– The Springboks failed to make any progress on their end-of-year tour

– Is Victor Matfield too conservative to be Bok captain?

– The All Blacks capped off an outstanding 2010 with their third Grand Slam in five years

– The Wallabies were frustratingly inconsistent on their end-of-year tour

– If England are to seriously challenge for the World Cup, they will have to stand up to the big beasts of the game

– Behind the swagger lies a secret diary that is driving England wing Chris Ashton to new heights

– Why the Barbarians are still relevant in the professional era

– Yet again the World Cup schedule helps the big nations and hinders the smaller ones. Why can’t the IRB make rugby’s showpiece event fair to all?

– Plus: Why Stuart Abbott is back in SA, Tim Noakes on the Boks ‘doping’ controversy, Heinrich Brussow’s injury battle, SA players in Europe

    You still here, Cane? I want to offer you an SA counter to the Kiwi hip hop you posted yesterday, but I don’t want to talk to myself.

    @grant10 : Best SA Cricketer ever IMO (if you take into account that only 4 people in history have made over 2000 runs, taken 200 wickets and over 100 catches in test cricket in the WORLD). And Kallis has made over 11 000 test runs. Unbelievable.

    @NZINCHINA : Mahatma? Those little 1100cc hatchbacks from India?

  • 2057.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @stormersboy : The other 3 are Warne, Sobers and Botham.

  • 2058.grant10: Reply to this comment

    cmon boys….15 overs till new ball….cmon…lets get to at least a 250 lead here

  • 2059.cab: Reply to this comment

    Seems like Kallis is the only that can bat. How the hell we can compete with that indian batting lineup and our bowling lineup is beyond me.

  • 2060.grant10: Reply to this comment

    @stormersboy : agree…kallis a true GREAT!

  • 2061.grant10: Reply to this comment

    and all this with a stuffed rib! Bloody marvelous kallis

  • 2062.grant10: Reply to this comment

    and bouchers experience the perfect foil

  • 2063.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @cab : Thing is, you could say the same about the Injuns and Sachin. Without his batting this would have been over a long time ago. Having said that, he should have been out earlier in his innings. He nicked that one, and he and the rest of the world knows it.

  • 2064.cab: Reply to this comment

    @stormersboy :
    hey i thought they got dravid, laxative and yoni? they look like the old ozzie batting lineup. htf tsotsi the slowest seamer in world cricket and harris the master of mediocrity, can get these okes out is beyond me. perhaps suzi has been put to work?

  • 2065.>^..^< katman: Reply to this comment

    Our problem, compared to them, is we have too many chiefs.

    198/6

    We fighting the fight out there. More like it.

    Boucher on 36 Kallis on 63

    If both are still in at close tonight we can win this but we lose Bouch or Kallis can’t see us win it. Should have 300 to be safe, but 260 might just do it.

    Go Proteas.

  • 2067.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @cab : The injuns have a good batting lineup for sure the best in the world at the moment on reputation imo, but if you look at how they’ve performed they’ve been very poor. Sachin really the only guy to stand up and be counted.

    As for our bowlers, yes, Steyn’s the prince amoung the frogs, but the resty have played a good supporting role to him. We have bowled them out every innings so far for modest totals by their high standards. Our batting has let us down badly, same as them i guess…

  • 2068.cab: Reply to this comment

    @stormersboy :
    oh right, surely we got better spinners than harris? hell blok-hom-dood kepler had more fizz.

  • 2069.grant10: Reply to this comment

    boucher for vice president!

  • 2070.grant10: Reply to this comment

    new bakk may be crucial here…..8 overs to go….must score at 4 an over till new ball due imo

  • 2071.grant10: Reply to this comment

    bakk is ball….

  • 2072.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

    @grant10 : granty you might like this but like smitty is the man of Sa rugby and what he has done for out rugby and of course the sharks

    so Kallis is the pride and joy of our cricket

    how anyone can still bad mouth this man is beyond me, kevin pietersen is prolly right in saying kallis is the greatest of all time

  • 2073.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @cab : yes, I tend to agree completely. Someone posted on this a few days ago and said that he’s faster to 100 wickets than any other spinner in SA ever or even Morkel. Makes you think…

  • 2074.grant10: Reply to this comment

    @sharks_lover : no comment

  • 2075.gunther: Reply to this comment

    Oh dear.

    Boucher giving some of the armchair selectors a nice big shitburger to eat.

    With extra onions.

    ET will be choking on his fair-trade samoosa.

  • 2076.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @gunther : Just when we think he’s out for the count…..he brings it again. Just wish he’d do it more often.

  • 2077.grant10: Reply to this comment

    now for harris to take advantage of the wearing pitch….may just turn out to be a bloody great start to the new year!

    If he did it more often who would the keo youth league have to moan about?

    Apart from Harro who is a waste of a good moan…

  • 2080.cab: Reply to this comment

    He’s just so damn ordinary, the others have got muliliteran and warnie and harbajan and wie ook al who spinning it out of their arses, and who we got, yes thats right fkn harro bowling right arm over the wicket, fkall spin to come.

  • 2081.gunther: Reply to this comment

    Kapil Dev?

    Clearly the Indians have hacked the icc website.

    On another note my swimming pool has just hit 27 degrees.

    It’s just wrong :)

  • 2082.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @Two Eyed : 2078 – Well that is their choice. I think Warne was better than Murali. I would have had Warne on that list.

  • 2083.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

    @gunther : lol nice one. Original.

  • 2084.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @gunther : 2081 – Gunther, Have you got all your wine in the freezer for stand by? hehehe

    All the best for 2011. Have forgot who I have wished and not.

    @cab : 2080 – Cabbie same to you buddy. All the best for 2011.

    Don’t worry Cabbie, we will have Tahir after this test as our spinner.

  • 2085.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @Two Eyed : no kallis?

    ag the icc can get phuked.

    as can anyone who badmouths John Smit (legend).

    our boys are proving just a bit too spicy for india at the moment and ET has crawled back up his own…..ah, life is good.

    Speaking of *** toys I hope Santa was good to you.

  • 2087.cab: Reply to this comment

    you got to have warne there purely for his gamesmanship, no ways he would have gone down to england, they’ve lost their sledging ability a bit, gone are the days of big merv, nowadays its a more sensitive type of new-age metrosexuals like mitchell johnson, who has all the talent, but none of the gumption.

  • 2088.cab: Reply to this comment

    @Puma :
    but Pumes isn’t he like 62?

  • 2089.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    biff looks quite chuffed.

    has the urgency gone out of the indian fielding yet?

    it will if this continues.

  • 2095.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    ***** me i must sort myself out.

  • 2096.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @cab : 2088 – Cabbie, Tahir is 31 years old now, but a spinner can bowl for a very long time. Still has another 4 years in him I reckon. He is our best in the domestic tourney, he is also a leg spinner Cabbie. He takes wickets. Will probably play in the odi’s

  • 2097.gunther: Reply to this comment

    Puma

    The same to you my good man.

    It is very spicy here 38 plus.

    Too hot for wine of any description.

    I have just raped my first ice cold corona.

    There is a cheeky yet unassuming little rose hiding at the back of the fridge for later.
