The new face of Super Rugby
20 Dec 2010
Find out everything you need to know about the expanded competition in the bumper 156-page issue of SA Rugby magazine.
We kick off our Super Rugby preview section with an idiot’s guide to the new format (if you still don’t know how it works after reading this, we can’t help you). That’s followed by three pages on each South African team (how they are shaping up, player signings/losses, fixtures, previous log finishes, numbers that matter etc) and one page on each of the Kiwi and Aussie sides.
Also in the new issue:
– The Springboks failed to make any progress on their end-of-year tour
– Is Victor Matfield too conservative to be Bok captain?
– The All Blacks capped off an outstanding 2010 with their third Grand Slam in five years
– The Wallabies were frustratingly inconsistent on their end-of-year tour
– If England are to seriously challenge for the World Cup, they will have to stand up to the big beasts of the game
– Behind the swagger lies a secret diary that is driving England wing Chris Ashton to new heights
– Why the Barbarians are still relevant in the professional era
– Yet again the World Cup schedule helps the big nations and hinders the smaller ones. Why can’t the IRB make rugby’s showpiece event fair to all?
– Plus: Why Stuart Abbott is back in SA, Tim Noakes on the Boks ‘doping’ controversy, Heinrich Brussow’s injury battle, SA players in Europe

@gunther : 2097 – Gunther, thanks bud. Had a brilliant festive season this year. Probably too much so, but what the heck.
Okay being so hot there have a ice cold corona.
@rangerman : 2098 – Ranger, I am enjoying this rain buddy. Sunday was far too hot for me, the humidity with the heat is a killer..hahaha. Went at lunch time to your local. Nice vibe always down there, but my fisrt time there this past festive season. Never like to go down to the little town until all the holiday makers have gone back home..haha.

Sachin Tikka Massala looks happy at getting a wicket but then sad as he remembers that he still has to bat on this pitch.

Bouch out on 55

2b honest, i think the Boucher dismissal opened up the test .. now kallis will have to score quicker .. things just went to slow in the last 5 overs or so.

Hi Ranger,
Sorry I did not reply to you the other day- missed the post and only saw it the evening.
Anyway, i have never dived in Clifton and don’t know much about the abundance and sizes of the Jasus Lalandii there – in theory they should be plentiful and big at relative shallow depths in that area as it is a reserve and serious poaching will be quite difficult as there is quite a lot of “traffic” that will make it hard for poachers. There might be other environmental reasons for it to be relatively scarce there or you might just have dived at the wrong place.
Are you doing ok otherwise- still on leave or back in the rat race?
So hot here today I reckon one can do Clifton dive in a Speedo only for about 45 minitues before even cooling down
5 Jan 2011, 16:14 pm
kallis to get a 100 … we declare with a 280 run lead
5 Jan 2011, 16:15 pm
@rangerman : 2103 – Yip, the holiday makers do bring in plenty business but it is hectic down there still. I normally only make my way down there well after now, but decided to go down today.
Think they will need to double up that road Ranger. Traffic when the holiday makers come to town is really hectic.

Now this is why I never agree to send in a night watchman. Rather send in the batsmen in their regular order. We could still have had Harris to bat had he not been sent in last night. Amla should have come in. Anyhow hope we don’t lose any more wickets before close. Think we will need 300 to be safe but 260 we can still fight the fight. Our bowlers have been sharp. Especially Steyn.

@Robzim :

5 Jan 2011, 16:19 pm
@Mighty_Horua : 2108 – Hoping that will happen. Kallis sure is batting well this series. Just need the tail to stay with him though.
5 Jan 2011, 16:20 pm
@Mighty_Horua : 2111 – That is a great team Mighty, but think you have Warne twice there.
5 Jan 2011, 16:22 pm
@gunther :
5 Jan 2011, 16:23 pm
@cab :
Better wait for the rugby season to start before you start fishing, lol
5 Jan 2011, 16:27 pm
Shaun Pollock earlier today described Jacques Kallis as “the Headboy of Cape Town”
You can bet your bottom dollar that Mark Boucher can personally attest to that statement!
5 Jan 2011, 16:43 pm
254/7
Only just over a hour before close today. Hope we still batting at close. We are think it will be tough for the Indians tomorrow.
5 Jan 2011, 16:48 pm
@Puma : Another 50 runs in the last hour and then stick them in. If we last that long.

5 Jan 2011, 17:11 pm

Now kallis…just get another undefeated 100….with a broken rib…..and the legend will never ever die!
5 Jan 2011, 17:12 pm
Was about to post that Steyn mustn’t do anything stupid now. Kallis needs him to stick around.
And then look what happens. What a curse!
But well batted Dale.
And the Proteas will settle for another 40 runs I reckon.
5 Jan 2011, 17:16 pm
come on kallis…..
1 more run my man!
5 Jan 2011, 17:17 pm

5 Jan 2011, 17:21 pm
Jacques Henry Kallis is a living legend.
One of the greatest to have ever played this wonderful game of cricket.
Just done the double twice now in his career.
Salute.
5 Jan 2011, 17:31 pm
hi boys
I’ve watched some great players over the years, in this wonderful game of cricket. I can’t recall having seen better than Kallis. Tendulkar is a genius certainly. But can he be considered a better “cricketer” than Kallis. I think not. The man simply eclipses his previous high. Unbelievable. I think we should chip in and buy him another three R8′s. Just in case someone throws him another curved wall.
5 Jan 2011, 17:39 pm
@Eish : @ 1970
for every 1 x Tackler, there are atleast 20-30+ JL1s/BluesBro’s/Whatevers/BokFan1s etc
and noone seems to have a problem with that.
5 Jan 2011, 17:39 pm
Well played king Carlos.
I salute you with a cold one from my lounger.
5 Jan 2011, 17:39 pm
Well done Kallis on his 40th 100. What a magnificent achievement. Without his superb batting and Steyn’s outstanding bowling we could never be in this position in this test.
Reckon we may just do it now with a 300 lead. Need to still bowl them out tomorrow. Hope we can that would be awesome.
Go Proteas.
5 Jan 2011, 17:41 pm
maybe give the quicks 3 or 4 overs tonite?
5 Jan 2011, 17:42 pm
@TASSIES : 2138 – Tassies have to agree with you. Kallis is the best all rounder ever in the history of cricket. Very proud he is a South African.
Tendulkar is brilliant too. Just that Kallis is ours. Very proud of him.
5 Jan 2011, 17:42 pm
these runs are hurting the Indians
5 Jan 2011, 17:42 pm
@Puma : hiyas puma , did you get my mail?
5 Jan 2011, 17:43 pm
Sreesanth gets a warning for 3 bouncers in the over.
Then bowls a full p and gets hiot to the boundary by Morkel.
Got to love it.
5 Jan 2011, 17:44 pm
@grant10 : 2142 – Grant we could but if they got a quick 40 which they could then it wont be wise, but if we took a wicket or 2 then heck I would be smiling.
For me not too sure what is the best to do here. Probably make more runs and make sure they can’t win it. That would be the way to go I think.
5 Jan 2011, 17:46 pm
@sharks_lover : 2145 – Sharky, Yip only just checked my mail now. Will answer later or tomorrow. We going out to the clubhouse now for dinner.
5 Jan 2011, 17:46 pm
@Puma : afternoon Pumes(best not to slip a ‘b’ in there in error of course).
Yes a magnificent effort. Chalk that down as one of his finest. He is not a well man. We were dead and buried. Massive pressure. Opposition had their tails up and were dusting off the trophy for their Delhi cabinet. No, this one was very special and I couldn’t even watch. Life’s a *****.
5 Jan 2011, 17:47 pm
@Puma : ok cool bro enjoy
holy **** its hot in cape town today ,
i think this heat is also taking its toll on the indians , and could just work in our favour
