Aussie latest – Vickerman set for Tahs return
1 Feb 2011
Keo.co.za brings you the latest news from Australia’s Super Rugby franchises.
Vickerman set for Tahs return - Daniel Vickerman has signed for Northampton but will return to Australia in June to join the Waratahs.
Vickerman, who has been studying at Cambridge University in England, confirmed that he will return to top level rugby with the Premiership side. To this point he has been playing for the university.
Vickerman will, however, be available for the latter stages of the Tahs’ Super Rugby campaign. He is expected to play at most 12 matches for the Saints.
‘That’s a really good level of rugby to play at before he comes back,’ Waratahs coach Chris Hickey told the Herald.
‘It will give him really good match conditioning. And we hope that when he does arrive back here, he will be all ready to go. To get someone of his experience back at that stage of the season could be really beneficial, but we really look at him as a bonus rather than as someone you are counting on.’
Meanwhile the Tahs have named their starting line-up for their trial match against Fiji on Saturday.
Waratahs squad - Kurtley Beale, Afa Pakalani, Lachie Turner, Tom Carter, Drew Mitchell, Berrick Barnes, Luke Burgess, Wycliff Palu, Phil Waugh (c), Ben Mowen, Dean Mumm, Kane Douglas, Al Baxter, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Sekope Kepu.
Subs: Scott Sio, John Ulugia, Greg Peterson, Dave Dennis, Josh Holmes, Sosene Anesi, Ryan Cross, Ben Seymour, Sitaleki Timani, Paddy Ryan, Chris Alcock, Lopeti Timani, Tom Kingston.

Too little too late.
).
While I would love to see him back at his best, our experience has been the same as with your lads, in that they are not up to Test level for months after returning from playing in the NH (so much for the premier rugby competition in the world
This on top of the fact that he has played zero rugby since 2008 makes me seriously doubt his ability to regain form in time to make a difference at the World Cup.
@puff(puff)-2: Good looking team. Drop Mitchell for Ioane on that left wing, Horwill for Vickerman (and Chisholm prob on bench) and you have the likely RWC22 for the Wallabies.
Just wish that one of the specialist tightheads would step up this season, so that Alexander can play either bench or his favoured loosehead. Rodney Blake perhaps for the Rebels?

@DonutDunning(DonutDunning)-5:
Would love to see Ashley Cooper back at 11/14 and Ioane at 13.Just have a run, still believe he is best suits at 13.
Blake was a joke in 06′ when he made his debut and is a joke now.Liked the look of Laurie Weeks in S14 last yr but he fell off bandwagon then signed for Rebels
Have your say
