Blitzboks lucky to be in Cup play-offs
4 Feb 2011
GARETH DUNCAN reports on the Springbok Sevens’ inconsistent performances on day one at the Wellington Sevens.
The Blitzboks will have to thank Canada for their place in the Cup section. After their 31-5 win over the latter, they suffered a 14-12 loss to France in their second group match. All France had to do to confirm their Cup spot ahead of South Africa was to beat the lowly North Americans.
A French victory was expected against Canada, who also lost 38-0 against Fiji. However, Canada upset France with an 19-14 win, handing the Blitzboks a Cup play-off lifeline. South Africa followed with a draw against Fiji, confirming second place behind the Pacific Islanders in Pool D. But it was a match South Africa should have won.
Fiji were far the better team in the first stanza and rightfully took the lead after speedster Seremaia Burotu ran in the corner for the first try of the game. In reply, the Blitzboks couldn’t build any momentum on attack because of poor passing and handling while their defence was easily penetrated. South Africa were lucky to be trailing 7-0 at the break.
In the second half, the Blitzboks produced an improved performance. They camped inside Fiji’s red zone for most parts of the half but could only score one try through Branco du Preez to level matters.
Bernado Botha had the opportunity to dive over for the match-winning try, but he lost the ball forward over the line. South Africa were then awarded an injury-time penalty in a kickable position to clinch the match, but they went for the try and failed.
The Blitzboks will now face Australia in the Cup quarter-final on day two. In the other Cup play-offs, England face Argentina, Fiji play Samoa and New Zealand take on Wales.
Blitzboks results (Day 1):
South Africa 31 Canada 5
South Africa 12 France 14
South Africa 7 Fiji 7

@JL1(JL1)-596: Yeah Gandi achieved his successes by peaceful means. All this nonsense about the IRA, they were murderers and thugs who hijacked a noble cause, and these clowns are confusing the cause with the organisation. Whether it’s bombs, hammers to shatter kneecaps, little boxes of matches or whatever, it’s all savagery. The majority in Eire despised the IRA, most of their support came from descendants of Irish emigrants who fled the potato famine; people who had been brought up on hatred and living in US and elsewhere.

Hiya Carol.

Last was theAb game at soccer city.
Remember that Loftus game well – you buggers were deafening but luckily some brilliance from Mossie and a brainfart from RoG pulled us through.

Farkin embarrasing….pivitol moment too!!
Glad you getting home to enjoy your games tho.

@capo(capo)-617: You obviously have a problem with black “boys”, I thought that kind of language was illegal in South Africa. It’s especially surprising coming from an HDSA. I am New Zealand born, of Maori descent. I grew up in Scotland. I sha gged a lot of coloureds in my time so I’ve probably contributed to the population explosing in the Cape

@Transformation(Transformation)-552: Look, you two faced twat, I apologised in post 523 to you and implicitly to Rossi… I didn’t have to, especially considering the stirring you deliberately undertake on this website in the guise of “exposing” certain people who you don’t agree with. This stirring is invariably racial in nature. The same goes for Rossi who conducts herself in a manner nothing worse than hate speech at times.
I also did not “use” Puma’s misfortune for any “motives”.
By implying this you have now twisted an honest apology to serve God know’s what ends…
You can swear, carry on, throw tantrums and twist things as much as you like – this shows that you lack self control. If you can’t accept an honest apology, this shows too that you are in fact dishonest with your intentions on this blog.
Actually, after this, the first stimulus coming to mind when reading your copy and pastes will be scroll down.
5 Feb 2011, 13:13 pm
@Porto(Porto)-634: maybe you should look for your daddy in nz.raping your mothers and sisters was a hobby for white kiwis wasn’t it?

Back to rugby:
What is the general consensus on Mallet as a coach? Italy don’t seem to have improved very much under his stewardship. Should a coach of his reputation and standing have done better, or is it a case of good craftsman, poor tools?
Would saffas consider him again for Bok coach?
5 Feb 2011, 13:17 pm
@charo(charo)-635: He has no idea!!
5 Feb 2011, 13:18 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-638: you,together with your mates gunther,greatest white,charo and your new buddy porto, are the biggest perpetrators of hate speech and racism here on keo,so get up of your high horse and shut the fark up!!
5 Feb 2011, 13:18 pm
@wooden spoon(wooden spoon)-642:
I rate Mallet. He has done well with the talent available. Will i take him as bok coacg again? Ya betcha!
5 Feb 2011, 13:19 pm
@wooden spoon(wooden spoon)-642: I think he should have done better even accepting the shortcomings of the pool of players at his disposal. I think his best days are behind him
5 Feb 2011, 13:20 pm
@Two Eyed(Two Eyed)-643:
He’s probably just angry ‘cos Porto fucked his mama and refused to pay support for him.
5 Feb 2011, 13:20 pm
@trupisero(trupisero)-645: trupi, good to see you back on here. You say he has done well with the talent available, but how many games has Italy won? I can’t see any progress there, they are still the most likely contenders for 6N wooden spooners.
5 Feb 2011, 13:20 pm
@trupisero(trupisero)-641: those kiwi boys really enjoyed your mammy ne boy?
5 Feb 2011, 13:21 pm
