Pienaar does it again for Ulster
20 Mar 2011
Ruan Pienaar’s boot secured another win for Ulster in the Magners League, this time in a 25-23 victory against Newport Gwent Dragons at Ravenhill over the weekend.
Ulster trailed by two points with a minute left on the clock after Dragons flyhalf John Tovey slotted what seemed to be the winning three-pointer in an exciting clash. However, scrumhalf Pienaar’s drop goal was the one that stole the headlines as he kicked the deciding score for the last action of the game.
No 8 Robbie Diack and lock Johann Muller also started for the Belfast-based club while flanker Pedrie Wannenburg featured off the bench in the second stanza. The win keeps Ulster’s play-off ambitions alive as they jump into fourth place on the log with five rounds remaining.
This is one of several match-winning cameos Pienaar has produced for Ulster this season. Although he has featured at pivot occasionally when needed, the former Sharks and Springbok utility back has displayed great form in the No 9 jumper.

He should have left the Sharks long ago. Something that frustrated me was that he never seemed to fight for his career, but even he had a limit. I’m glad that he’s happy now. Despite the criticism NH rugby takes, it’s a great place to develop your game. Mujati’s come on leaps and bounds since he moved north.

Sorry but, Ruan Who? Look, these guys just aren’t good enough to get regular game time in SA. Just look at his esteemed counterparts at Ulster.
It’s good for the lad to play overseas. Let him come back after the World Cup if he wants to, but there are plenty of talented players in SA pushing him further from a starting berth.

Interesting statement:
‘the former Sharks and Springbok utility back “????
Pienaar was the Boks No 9 the LAST Springbpoks Test against the Poms on Nov 27, 2010
That makes him the INCUMANT Boks’ scrum half, doesn’t it?
Interesting who wrote that drivel? Ricky Januarie?
his English isn’t that good I am afraid

If anyone is interested there is always a short highlight of Ulster Magners League games on BBC. And much more on you tube or on ulster unofficial fans site UAFC.. Watch and see yourself how good he is. In this last game RP began as scrumhalf but made all the flyhalf’s kicking – penalties , restarts and ended playing flyhalf.
Have your say
