Keo.co.za brings you news from South Africa’s Super rugby franchises.
Bakkies cited – Bakkies Botha has been cited for a dangerous tackle on Stormers scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenhage on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld.
Botha escaped sanction during the Bulls vs Stormers game, but Sanzar has decided to take the matter further. The Bok lock’s poor disciplinary record is likely to count against him when he faces a hearing on Tuesday, and he could miss a large portion of the Super Rugby tournament.
Lambie in doubt for Crusaders clash – Patrick Lambie is battling a finger injury and may miss the Sharks’ visit to London later this week.
Lambie will see a hand specialist in Durban on Monday. If he is ruled out, Jacques-Louis Potgieter will start at flyhalf.
Cheetahs count the cost of victory – Andries Strauss has been ruled out for the remainder of the Cheetahs Australasian tour.
Strauss suffered a groin injury in last week’s win over the Waratahs, and has subsequently returned to Bloemfontein. He will be out for between four and six weeks.
Strauss is the third Cheetahs captain to suffer a serious injury in 2011, with Juan Smith and Adriaan Strauss already on the crocked list. Lock Wilhelm Steenkamp will captain the team in Strauss’s absence.
The Cheetahs will also be without No 8 Frans Viljoen, whose hamstring injury will sideline him for two to three weeks. Davon Raubenheimer is likely to replace Viljoen in the Cheetahs 22, while Wilmaure Louw and Barry Geel are flying to Australia to replace Rayno Benjamin (also hamstring) and Strauss respectively.
