TUT stay in Varsity Cup
11 Apr 2011
TUT scored a try in the last minute of extra time to beat CUT 50-43 in the Varsity Cup promotion-relegation game in Pretoria.
The match-winning score came after TUT had missed a long-range penalty. CUT ran it back, getting as far as the 22 before losing possession. TUT had one last crack and a massive gap opened up for wing Ruan van Loo, who raced through for his hat-trick try.
The teams had been locked at 36-36 after 80 minutes and there would have been a kick-off (similar to a penalty shootout in soccer) had TUT not struck in the 100th minute.
In the end, the Pretoria side were worthy winners, having scored eight tries to four.

A question for the Keo journos and their mentor, Gavin Rich:
The phrase ‘was always’ as in ‘…it was always on…’ or ‘…it was always going to be…’.
How did that come about?
I’m not taking the piss, promise.

@I am a stormer(I am a stormer)-5: Yes, and yet they are coming off second best at the moment. Good team play by Tukkies.

I’ve always admired and supported the Cape spanne, Ikeys and Maties.
But this year there are mixed feelings seeing i am paying varsity fees to Tukkies!!!

Not at all.
I’m a proud uct supporter.
I know the bulls will buy their best players.
Shame the hairybacks aren’t in the final.
It would have been sweet to take them down.

11 Apr 2011, 21:43 pm
Well played UCT … only when the blue cow clones kept the ball in hand did they look like scoring tries. HM knows jack about rugga, all he knows is kick and chase and collisions.

@Robzim(Robzim)-19:Are you the Ex UCT bloke who knows how to show Pommie Birds a good time? xxxx

Deserved champions,
Looking forward to seeing some of you in green and gold some day *(cough) Etsebeth (cough)*

@Pick the team in August not March(stormersboy)-28:
He is looking good- another year or so and some more beef round the shoulders and we will have the real deal in him.
12 Apr 2011, 07:30 am
@Robzim(Robzim)-29: He might be Tygerberg High’s first bok…i stand to be corrected. They also had Frank Wagenstroom i think….but he just went to U/21 level.

@iori Yagami(iori Yagami)-30:
That is interesring, schools in that area dont seem to produce many boks in major sport . I only know of :
Settlers High: Neil de Kock, Eric Simons, Anette Cowley (swimming)
DF Malan High: Werner Greef
Oh yes, and DF also produced a few members of the rockers called the Springbok Nude Girls but I am not sure if they qualify for bok colours
Have your say
