St John’s set to scorch

With a host of top-tier schoolboy sides the St John’s College Easter Festival is set to showcase an entertaining three days of rugby over the holiday weekend.

Opened in 1998 [the festival’s third year] by then president Nelson Mandela, St John’s now hosts its 16th annual Easter rugby festival, featuring nine Preparatory Schools and eleven High School sides.

Sponsored in 2011 by First National Bank, the festival is a firm fixture in the Gauteng school rugby calendar, boasting over 20,000 spectators annually. Judging on the strength of the 2011 lineup, similar crowds are expected.
