That’s a big blow to the Wobblies. They can’t afford to lose too many good uns. Hope not too many other top players – from all teams – miss theWC. Want to see them all there.

wretched luck my ***! He is the victim of blatant thuggery! Go watch the replay. I was half and half expecting news of a citation of some sorts but nothing. Who is it that got off scotfree cause there wasn’t any damage done? Some Aussie prop if I remember correctly(?). And here we have a man with broken bones and dreams in tatters. Higgenbottom is very lucky indeed to escape sanction at the time, as it happened right infront of Walsh and now no citation to. Eish!

@BokiNZ(BokiNZ)-6: Yep, I agree. Hindsight is of course 20/20 and you shouldn’t judge by appearance etc. etc. but Higgenbotham has always looked like a thug. He did step into Mitchell’s way on purpose. Normally you don’t expect broken bones as a result but Higgenbotham *is* responsible.

This is devastating for Mitchell, as at age 27 this would have been his last World Cup. He seems to be in denial about it, but I can’t see him playing at RWC 2011. He won’t be at full speed, and what use is a winger without speed?

@BokiNZ(BokiNZ)-6: Nonsense, this was just a freak accident. Yes, Higginbotham may have moved slightly to block Mitchell, but he would never have expected to injure him.

    Mitchell said as much:

Higginbotham contacted Mitchell to clear the air over their collision, which occurred in the 19th minute of Queensland’s 19-15 victory over the Waratahs on Saturday.
”He said a few things, he got a couple of interesting messages from people in the public – by no means do I hold anything against him,” Mitchell said.
”I don’t think he was doing it with any intention to injure me, he was trying to run me off the ball which happens in every game. I am sure if you look at the tape of the first 20 minutes you would probably see me trying to run someone off the ball as well.”
