At one time, Waylon Murray was being talked up by even the Kiwi rugby commentators. Then the Sharks – under that genius Prick Muir, I think – dropped him like a stone. Murray looked hungry at the start of the Super 15. Hopefully he can make a full comeback.

Started off fairly well, but turned out to be an average to below average player.

Barrit says ‘You want to feel like you are rated’

Credit gets given where its due old chap.

I agree though – I certainly see Waylon Murray returning to his old habits. Running laterally along the backline in the hope that he finds a gap before he gets tackled….

So the Sharks let go of Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Waylon Murray and Brad Barrit and Adrian Strauss and they have a centre crisis. Does anyone take care of player while they are there? The first four should be approaching the peak and enjoying their rugby for the boks and in S.A. Yet 3 went overseas maybe for good and they don’t seem like they will ever want to come back. Barrit even became a Pom. This shows there is a problem with the way we treat our players. Is it fan expectation or coaching?

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-17: And yeah Bash is still there,know him.se to be Northwood boys high 1st Xv coach a while back. But Huge possibility that Hugh might be CC coach this yr,rumours started circuilating last yr.Shows how "highly" rated he is in union by some. Plum might be going coaching clinics etc much like Heyneke & Meyer did a few yrs back to expand knowledge base.

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-17: Go check the backline coaches,you will see Hugh Reece there.He is the "senior" most backs coach in mix. He quit the Westville Boys High head coach post to move to coach Sharks backs,just after CC commenced last yr.One of the first things that happened was Stefan moving into midfield-a move he influenced-have a look at 2000/1 CC campaign(Reece had coached Sharks in 2000 Super 12 and was backs coach after that)-most notably final where Stefan was played in midfield.A Reece trademark. Go check it up.Come back when you have something useful and credible to say

I can’t understand why Adi Jacobs does not get a start. It’s plain to see what he does when he comes on in the second half.

Why has Mvovo played off the bench in recent games. Is there favouritism in the ranks?

I suspect Plum has stuck with Terblanche out of loyalty as he was the Currie Cup winning captain.

Look at our current senior centre stocks? we have a flyhalf playing 12 and an octogenarian 15 playing 13.All this with a dubious backline mentor in Hugh Reece Edwards…they are unwilling to play the unions best centre in Adi jacobs.junior centres-Jordaan/Lindeque havent been bloodied and Lindeque being played at 15 …In all that weve lost the 3 most promsing young centres in SA…Murray,Barritt,Frans Steyn…Sharks at their best in 07 and Murray was a star-since then downhill

All that and Murray is only 24 yrs old AND a home grown talent.

Dont know what its gona take to lose sleep if all the above doesnt.

Murray had a long injury layoff at The Sharks and when he came back he just could not cut it back into the senior team. Now he’s injured again.

I don’t think The Sharks are losing sleep over this one.

Same as the combo of Ettiene Botha and Adi Jacobs at the Falcons… Both unfulfilled.

Good centres mostly come in two’s… Du Plessis/Gerber, Horan/Little, Little/Bunce, Carling/Guscott, Mesnel/Sella…

I wonder who SBW’s centre soul mate will be…

I thought I saw Mossie find his centre soul mate last year with JdJ, but it seems the Stormers… and Dippy Divvy disagree.

Great article!

Although these periods of “non-rating” by a coach of a player can happen and has happened in rugby everywhere, the particular treatment and pigeonholing of Murray at the Sharks has been bad. Shame on all involved.

Good Article Ryan and very accurate assessment of the player. He is a family man who seems to have been hard done by coach preferences.
Wonder if a new coach at the sharks after plum will see the return of Way.
Still a better bet than terblanche at 13 and marius joubert
