Can anyone who follows age group rugby (because I don’t) please answer these questions:
1. Is this a good group of players, and how do they compare to previous years (I’m especially interested in the tight 5)?
2. Which other eligible players do you feel should have been in the group?

Pua pua pua pua. First of all, in the 2006 U19 WC there were 13 white players and 13 black/coloured players, so ¿only one in the starting 15? i doubt it guapo.
¿In 2009 lost to France? non mon amour. They beat the french 43 -27 with 2 black starters (Chikukwa and Mastriet)
¿smoked by NZ/English? pues no, they lost in the semifinal against England 40-21 BUT the score was 23-21 when Elstadt was red carded.
In the 3rd place match our Bokkies crushed Aussies 32-5
Si, you are right Monde Hadebe (no Radebe) is quite small, he is 1,77 metres.
Okafor bigger than the afrikaner boy? well, acording to SA Rugby Kene Okafor is 1,95 metres tall and weights 103 kgs and the afrikaner boy (Sebastian De Chaves) is 2,02 tall and 109 kgs, uuuups
Kolisi is a very strong guy no doubt BUT in the modern rugby 1,86 tall flanker isnt big anyway.

@foreverrugga(foreverrugga)-7: Agh if you look at 2006 side which was the first side to do so badly,they had only one black guy/POC in starting XV (if Im not mistaken) in 2009 in side that lost to France-there was also only 1 POC in starting XV-in backline as well.If you look at packs selected they were 85-90% caucasian but STILL undersized and smoked by NZ/English counterparts. last yr the pack had 3 black/POC in packs namely-Okafor,Radebe,Kolisi.-Of the 3 only Radebe was relatively small in size and Okafor was bigger than his lock mate an Afrikaner boy...Kolisi is a Beast and is back in this yrs side.

@Bouts(Bouts)-4: I agree, it is the selection policy that is dubious. I'm sure there is still quota system in place as well. It is absolutley ridiculous that some excellent Grey players were left out.

watched the last 2 tournaments and said the same thing at the time….our players were pygmies comparitively.

Our tight forwards were positively lightweight and our 10,12,13 were equally as light.

That kiwi lock from last year (who looked like chewbacca and about 30 years old) dragged our entire backline halfway down the field all on his own.

Too many orks in U20′s and particularly the 7′s senior side for them to ever ‘consistently’ beat the much bigger (in stature with the same skills) countries for top spot…

You know. This is bull. First Eloff and then Sauls made it quite public that they don’t believe in heavy forwards. Sauls said ‘I need 15 mobile players on the field’. There were a number of big, strong and skilled forwards that weren’t selected. In fact, in Grey alone there were fantastic players, but very few from the tight-5 (if any) were selected from the front-row breeding ground that is the Free State.

My point. There is no lack of heavies, just a dubious selection policy. When the teams were anounced people complained, but heck… what do we know?
