SA latest – Daniel cops short ban

Keo.co.za brings you news from South Africa’s Super Rugby franchises.

Daniel cops short ban – Keegan Daniel has received a two-week ban for a dangerous tackle during the Sharks’ 34-16 win over the Brumbies last weekend.

The flanker was cited for his late charge on Brumbies inside centre Christian Lealiifano in Durban last Saturday and was found guilty at his disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

Daniel’s ban will be lifted on 21 May, which means he will only miss one match against the Bulls in the next fortnight as the Sharks have a bye this weekend.

    Furthermore, Treu was announced as assistant coach to the Contipartners Premier XV, who will play the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on June 4, 2011.

    Treu will in all likelihood coach a lot of familiar faces alongside head coach Brenden Venter, with four members of the Springbok Sevens team invited to play in this match. They are Cecil Afrika, Paul Delport, Kyle Brown and Frankie Horne.

    Former Springbok Sevens players, Joe Pietersen (now with Bayonne), Stefan Basson (Rovigo), Gcobani Bobo (Newcastle) and Brent Russell (Clermont) were also invited to play for the Premier XV.

    The squad leave on Monday 16 May to London from the Cape Town International Airport.

    The Springbok Sevens squad for London and Edinburgh is:

    Chris Dry, Kyle Brown (c), Frankie Horne, Neil Powell, Boom Prinsloo, Branco du Preez, Paul Delport, Cecil Afrika, Sibusiso Sithole, Steven Hunt, Bernado Botha, William Small-Smith.

    Fking ridiculous.
    You telling me his tackle is worse than the 2 shoulder charges SBW has put in this season?

    Botes will be fit but Kanko out for a few weeks.

    @Sasuke(Sasuke)-3: kay question you asked there mate!

    Sharkies….here is a tip…use it or lose it….

    Do not start with the deysel…alberts….kanko trio….

    go with botes ….he is your key.

    you can take this to the bank….you leace botes out steggmann and Dewalt potgieter will have you okes for a snack at the breakdown……dont try it….that plan will fail…

    @grant10(grant10)-7:
    Yep. We should have enough depth.
    My complaint is aimed at the citing system.

    Needs to be completely abolished and revamped.

    @grant10(grant10)-6: no come now grant, when started with Kanko, Deysel, Willem in last years Super 14 it turned our losing streak around so what you on about?

    @John Galt(John Galt)-8: I agree, the citing system has been a joke, really fuknpathetic.

  • 12.CenturionShark : Reply to this comment

    &$% joke, he was going for the chest and the Brumbies player got tackled just before…..it was a penality and nothing more!

    How the hell was this worse than SBW tackle on Kanko, or that Red’s prop on that Lions player?????

    Off topic I know but did anyone of you guys get Keo’s newletter last week Friday ? I am keen to hear what he had to say re the sharks/stormers game ? Just asking , no hating on the sharks behalf.

    @grant10(grant10)-6: Shark_lover says it is unfair that Keegan has been cited, because:

    “well we can feel agrieved if one takes the dirty play of the stormers against us.

    first 10 min flo eye gouging on jannie
    lambie hitting far off the ball with a stiff arm by cj , smitty and beast and jannie punched??

    thats besides the shoulder charge by schalk and the over the top land on bissies neck by schalk too”

    Is this Daniel’s first offence? If it is I would say the punishment is just about right I guess.

  • 17.Treehugger: Reply to this comment

    Wow that is harsh !!!!!!!! was surprised he was even cited, and considering he does not have the reputation of a dirty player he shuld just have got one week ban as a warning.

    This citing system has very little credibility in my opinion, you see a lot of stuff and think he is in the k*k and nothing happens and then this. :mad:

  • 18.goyougoodthing2: Reply to this comment

    Fairly typical unusually harsh punishment considering what has been the norm this year. The citing commish and the board are not doing themselves any favours in this regard.

    Be consistent, is that too much to ask?

  • 19.Dwis: Reply to this comment

    I thought the first question should be “Was it a redcard offence?”

  • 20.CenturionShark : Reply to this comment

    @Dwis(Dwis)-19:

    That only applies to SA players…….

  • 21.scar: Reply to this comment

    The richness of depth in the sharks’ camp. Imagine you lost the number of loose forwards that the Cheetahs did – who would you then play! ;)

  • 22.sparticus: Reply to this comment

    Did not see the tackle or at least it does not stand out in my mind , anyone has a link to it on youtube perhaps ? Also what happend to Keo’s newsletter last week ? I know old news but I am just interested in his excuse.

    @Transformation(Transformation)-14:
    One assumes that you are trying to make a point here. Unfortunately you actually don’t say what that point is.
    Apart from the thuggishness, point out by Shark’s lover one can also add the injury to beast’s left eye, continual entry into rucks and mauls from the side by almost every WP player but one should point out Flo, Burger and Kameel, plus Kanko’s broken cheek bone.
    Then again, Stormers can only win when they have home town (pocket) refs and linesmen.
    Let’s see how they fare when they actually have non-local oficiators shall we?
    Methinks they won’t get away with such antics plus forward passes, ‘uncontested’ push-over tries (in as much as there was zero review – as expected as it was for a BP).
    Stormers deserved to win, but not so handsomely.
    Good luck to Stormers on their away games but I think ther’ll be a lot of wet panties thrown in the ring, snot and trane, over the next month.
