Jantjies has sat on the bench in the last couple of games after struggling at Super Rugby level. Head coach John Mitchell has decided to give the 20-year-old another run, which sees Burton Francis drop to the bench.

Mitchell has also made a host of other changes to his team.

In the backline, Alwyn Hollenbach comes in for skipper Doppies la Grange while scrumhalf Jano Vermaak is rotated with Rory Kockott.

januarie must clear that base nice and quick…..

this is a must win for stormers

a good start to the tour is crucial.

may have Ruan Pienaar there for Blues the next week as well if Ulster lose to Leinster…and loan deal is sorted of course.

Why is steenkamp and van zyl on the bench????

Ino elstadt will be used at flank if one of the back row go off but steenkamp makes no impact atall. Koster and van zyl prvide impact from the bench…

What has happened to Adriaan Fondse??

  • 4.grant10: Reply to this comment

@Rhys7(Rhys7)-3: fondse playing vodacom rugby….seems out of favor

    Koster injured ….as is CJ.

Both should be fit for blues though

@grant10(grant10)-4: I actually rate Fondse. Sad to see him out of favour. Technically he is playing club rugby.

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-5: yeah….some serious lock talent in stormer land though…

@grant10(grant10)-6: Yip we can loan Fondse to the Lions. They need decent locks. I mean how can you play Wickus van Heerden at lock and expect to win any games.

  • 16.Cheetah 4 Eva: Reply to this comment

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-8: Stormers have always had lots of Springboks G10, what they achieve with them is another issue entirely. If games were won or lost on team sheets, the Stormers and WP would have had at least 5 CC trophies, and 2 Super trophies in the past 10 years, but they have none!! Lol.

I know Stormers get miffed when someone says that,, but seriously, if a formula could determine the potential vs results achieved by a Union, the Cheetahs would come out smelling like roses!!

@Cheetah 4 Eva(Cheetah 4 Eva)-16: 2 years ago they only had Schalk and Jean. They have not had this many Springboks for a long time.

  • 19.wpjoulekkading: Reply to this comment

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-15: Huh? What argument? I just listed the games remaining.

For the ranking according to points – the two positions that really matter are the top 2. So the current conference leaders can probably change, but the Stormers need to get ahead of either the Reds or the NZ conference leader at the end, be it the Saders or the Blues.
That the Stormers are conference leaders and therefore placed in 3rd is almost irrelevent for the moment.

  • 20.Roekeloos: Reply to this comment

I cannot believe the Stormers would drop Sadie. He was so much better than Habana since coming to Cape Town. Give the young guy more opportunity.

And need we dwell more on the Ricky at no.9. This could be a devastating loss on the road if AC doesn’t take his team selection seriously.

  • 21.Sasuke: Reply to this comment

@wpjoulekkading(wpjoulekkading)-19: Relax guy. I was just pulling your leg. Yes you are right. Stormers need to finish no 1 or no 2.

I’m not a fan of Janties, other than a boot he offers very little from the back. All good sides need an attacking fullback. Very little can substitute poor pace, especially from fullback.

Aplon should be there, he is far more leathel coming into the line from fullback. Wasted on the wing IMO, in the same vane Jean De Jong is wasted on the bench, not good for SA rugby!

I dont know why coaches consistently seem to play players out of position, Rassie was playing Kosta on the wing!!!

Here is the team for the 2nd Lions match in 2009. The first did not feature Schalk. It’s 2011 now. AJ retired from the Boks in 2007.

Yep – will be interesting for sure. But they were close enough to the Saders last week to not have too much baggage I think.

Whoever wants to have a decent chance at this needs to finish in the top 2. I don’t give numbers 3-6 much chance.

If the Stormers want a chance at a top 2 spot they will probably need to win all their remaining games, which will be a bit tough. Especially the Blues in Auckland.

stormers should play aplon at 15 and jdj at wing.
jantjies is the weak link and jdj needs more game time.
jdj would be very effective cutting in from the blindside wing pretty much like jpp does for the sharks
