The brilliance of SACS centre Brendan Rodgers wasn’t enough to slay the Rondebosch Boys High dragon in a fantastic Western Cape Schools derby match.
SACS schools site reports Rodgers was the standout player in a match that could have gone either way.
SACS, through a Rodgers try, led 5-0, but Rondebosch then dominated the remainder of the first half to score three tries and lead 19-5 at the break.
The second half belonged to SACS, who played with passion and intensity and it took determined defence from the hosts to secure the win.
At 19-15 with ten minutes to play SACS came in search of the winning score but Rondebosch showed good composure to play for field position and hold onto the ball.
Again it was SACS’s lineout which cost them the opportunity to have one last crack at the tiring Rondebosch defence and the hosts were able to hold on for a hard-earned win.
