Leinster rebound to sink Saints
21 May 2011
Leinster beat Northampton 33-22 to capture the European Cup off the back of an immense second half effort.
The Irish side trailed 22-6 at the break, having been completely outclassed in every facet of play. The Saints’ superiority was such that they even scored while former Springbok prop Brian Mujati was sin binned in the first half. They were being bullied in the forwards and seemingly had no capacity for a telling rebuttal.
However, flyhalf Jonathan Sexton dragged his side off the canvas, scoring and converting two tries within 20 minutes of the restart, then kicking them into the lead with two penalties. The scores demoralised the Saints, and a late Nathan Hines try sealed the result.

Cracking game to watch. Message to Bryce in Oz. Saw your rant on other thread and you are wrong. Heinke v/d Merwe did win his only cap under White end of 07. Only toured under PDivvy in 09 but no tests. He came on last 20 min today and scrummed very well.

Indeed grant. Was v/d Merwe that helped Leinster scrum stabilize when he came on.

Leinster changed scrum tactics in the second half and drove Northampton backwards.
Have your say
