SA latest – Benjamin faces suspension

Keo.co.za brings you news from South Africa’s Super Rugby franchises.

Benjamin faces suspension – Cheetahs wing Ryno Benjamin will attend a Sanzar judicial hearing on Monday after being red-carded in Saturday’s match in Bloemfontein.

Benjamin received a red card in the 75th minute of the match against the Rebels for allegedly hitting centre Stirling Mortlock with his head. The judiciary will make its decision on Monday, but given that head-butting warrants heavy sentences, Benjamin is unlikely to feature again in the Cheetahs’ 2011 campaign.

It’s Interesting question how the Honourable Pro Legota and his assistants, the TMO all ‘missed’ Benjamin’s face stomping of the Rebels’ No 5?
    Call it a brotherly love?
    ;)

Not sure if this has been posted before but here goes:

    Sunday May 22 2011
Ireland are making arrangements with the Stormers in
South Africa to get much-needed game time for Rob
Kearney in July, ahead of the World Cup. And an extra
game, against Connacht, has been slotted into the
August schedule to facilitate other players who are
    struggling with long-term lay-offs.
Currently there are eight players, excluding Paul
O’Connell who is fit but still short of match practice,
who are injured or will have procedures carried out
soon, and will need pitch time to get up to some sort of
speed for the World Cup in September.
Kearney, however, is the only one who is being pointed
south to get some action, having not played since
picking up a knee injury last November.
“We’re looking at the South African option for Rob and
we’ve made contact with the Stormers there,” Ireland
manager Paul McNaughton confirmed last week. “We’re
waiting for sign-off from our medics in the next few
days to see what weeks he can start playing. He’s been
keeping as fit as he can without playing matches, gym
fit, but he’ll obviously need some preparation before he
    plays down there.”

should the deal go through and Kearney comes in and plays FB,where will that leave a guy like Jantjes?

@Rage(Rage)-6: he’d better hurry up because he will need to log at least 2 full games in the regular season to qualify for the playoffs.

yes it will be interesting to see how he goes in this tourney

    Quality depth needed
Also Kearney can play wing and he will provide good ability from full back on attack

    15 Conrad Jantjes
    14 Gio Aplon
    13 Jaque Fourie
    12 Jean De Villiers
    11 Bryan Habana
    10 Peter Grant
    9 Ricky Januaire

20 PLEASE SIGN PIENAAR! if Ireland can do this for Kearney then surely Uslter can let Pienaar go to Stormers to help his WC chance and to help the Stormers, although Januarie and Duvenhage had great games on friday..

    21 Rob Kearney
    22 Juan De Jongh

De Jongh & Kearney would make a huge impact if they came on off the bench and would spark life into a game. The stormers really do need a world class 9 or 10 cover, Tony Brown did good in 2008 and I think the Stormers have been shocked at how much of a void Willem De Waal left in terms of experience and goal kicking on the bench…

Strange that hid headbutt did not show on the big screen. What an idiot and this is not the first time either.
The swinging arm is making a come back: The following links shows photos of unpunished high and swinging arm tackles http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-match-report/surging-cheetahs-upset-crusaders-20110515-1ensc.html

Morne Steys spear tackle went unnoticed on Lambie.

We dont need to sign Pienaar! Just need to sign our own youngsters!!! Kearney could be interesting though. Always love seing whether the NH guys can adapt to the pace of Super Rugby. So far not too many have managed it successfully
