The South African Kings have announced their 27-man squad that will compete at the Nations Cup in Romania.
Twenty-six players of the group are all based at the EP Kings. The tournament will be seen as final preparation for Port-Elizabeth based union’s Currie Cup First Division campaign, where promotion will be vital as they aim for Super Rugby participation in 2013.
High profile signing Luke Watson has been added to the squad while Kiwi duo prop Clint Newland and lock Ross Kennedy have also been selected. There are also a few players from the EP Kings Academy.
The South African Kings will compete against Georgia, Romania and Portugal in their pool matches.
‘We expect particularly tough and physical games right off the bat against Georgia and Romania,’ said head coach Alan Solomons. ‘Both teams consist of top level international players, particularly in the forwards. The Nations Cup is an outstanding tournament and will be a great platform to elevate the Kings to the next level.’
