Since Waterkoof Hoerskool came into existance in 1979 it has played Affies 36 times and has lost on 29 of those occasions. Yet it has delivered 24 SA schools players whilst Affies (over a much longer period of time) managed only 15 and almost yearly has more players in the Blue Bull Craven week side than Affies. May I say that no other school has dominated school rugby in the North quite like Affies, winning the Director’s/Beeld Cup 18 times (most of any school), winning the Blue Bull region 26 times in total and 10 years in a row (1993-2002). This seemingly unfair bias towards Waterkloof players is something that was first noticed in the 1990′s when their headmaster was chairman of SA Schools Rugby (the same man that is now in deep trouble pertaining to fraud related irregularities during his tenure as their headmaster). It might also be interesting to know that one of their coaches was also a SA Schools and SA U/19 coach. It is very sad to see that the trend continues.
