Keo.co.za brings you news from Australia’s Super Rugby franchises.
Vaea cops one week ban – Brumbies No 8Ita Vaea has been suspended for one week after being found guilty of foul play by a Sanzar Judicial Hearing held in Brisbane on Sunday morning.
Vaea was cited under Law 10.4 (e) for a dangerous tackle on Reds wing Digby Ioane in the 48th minute of the match at the Suncorp Stadium on Saturday. Ioane was forced to leave the field following the incident.
O’Connor cleared – No further sanction will be taken against Waratahs lock Pat O’Connor after he appeared at a Sanzar Judicial Hearing in Pretoria on Saturday.
O’Connor faced a mandatory hearing after receiving a red card for an alleged head butt during the Waratahs’ match against the Bulls. After hearing evidence from the referee, the assistant referee and the player and considering video evidence of the incident, Judicial Officer, Jannie Lubbe SC concluded that he was satisfied on the balance of probabilities that O’Connor did not head butt an opponent.
Lubbe ruled that there should be no further action taken against the player.
Meanwhile, another Waratahs lock in Kane Douglas faced a Sanzar judicial hearing after being cited for an alleged contravention of Foul Play Law 10.4 (e) dangerous tackling of a player above the shoulders and around the neck; and law 10.4 (m) an act contrary to good sportsmanship.
Douglas pleaded guilty and has been suspended for two weeks, Lubbe catergorised the incident at low entry level and after considering aggravating and mitigating factors suspended Douglas from all rugby until 17 June 2011.

What’s with the new headlock tackle trend? Somebody is going to get hurt real bad, real soon!

Red card more than punishment enough… undecided Pro Legoeta decision…
The ‘head-lock’ tackle was the least bad of the three we’ve seen, but should get at least a week or two for consistency.
@Siyavuna(Siyavuna)-2:

At least sanity prevails. Wasn’t a red card offence – actually not even a YC.

Pro Legota is decidedly amateur…

The Suplex and headlocks have been in use for a long time now but it seems the dirty play citings is only 1 sided. The fetchers get it the worst.
Jonker must surely be the worst ref in the S15????

What was Jonker supposed to do other than to rely on the report of the assistant referee.
ImAGine the outcry if he had ignored the recommendation given, particularly, as the assistant was “of the rainbow”>
It would bode you well to refrain from mindless comments. .
