Toulouse crowned kings of France
4 Jun 2011
Toulouse beat Montpellier 15-10 at Stade de France on Saturday to claim the French Top 14 title.
Their 18th French Championship was attained entirely through penalty goals, with the match failing to live up to its billing as a free-flowing, open contest. The winning margin could have been greater for the dominant Toulouse, had flyhalf David Skrela not missed four penalty kicks at goal.
However, Montpellier led 10-9 with 10 minutes to play, despite being completely swamped with regards to possession and territory. They scored through Timoci Nagusa, while Martin Bustos Moyano converted and Francois Trinh-Duc sunk a drop-goal.
Skrela kicked three penalties before being replaced by Nicolas Bézy, who landed two to secure victory.

Skrela nearly lost it for them, but yet another trophy for Toulouse. I think they’d give the cream of the S15 a run for their money.
Have your say
