Aussie latest – Reds reeling with injuries

Keo.co.za brings you news from Australia’s Super Rugby franchises.

Reds reeling with injuries – The Reds suffered further injuries to their backline on Saturday with Luke Morahan (hamstring) and Rod Davies (shoulder) the latest casualties.

Coach Ewen McKenzie was hopeful that Digby Ioane would return for the final league game against the Chiefs to offset the loss of Morahan and Davies. If Ioane doesn’t recover in time, the Reds will have to look to blood more academy or club players.

O’Connor to miss Force finale – James O’Connor has been suspended for one week after being found guilty of dangerous play in Saturday’s game against the Reds.

O’ Connor had been cited under Foul Play Law 10.4 (j) for the dangerous lifting and dropping of Reds captain James Horwill. After a judicial hearing, it was found the offence was at the low end of seriousness. Taking account of mitigating factors and noting the absence of any aggravating features, the sanction was reduced from a three-week to a one-week suspension.

O’Connor will miss the Force’s final match of the season against the Rebels.

    @grant10(grant10)-1: it was pretty good where I was sitting. I can’t but notice some of the Aussie teams are finally playing some decent rugby, too late for super rugby but a good sign for the Wallabies, can’t way

    @Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-3: I’ve been hearing “the reds will lose” all season.

    @grant10(grant10)-1: I felt the same Grant. Not all lost though. Reds play Chiefs this week who are playing far better than the start of the season. If Reds lose and Stormers pick up a bonus point win against Cheetahs they can still get a home semi.

    The reason I really don’t like this new format. How a 5th and 6th team can still be in it to win is just absolute nonsense. I will always support my Sharks hundreds, but really if we don’t get into the final 4 we don’t deserve a crack at the semi or final. For that matter the Bulls. The top 4 have earned it and that is the way it should always be. The top 4 get to play the semi and whoever makes it to the final. The old format worked and fair to the teams. Bring it back I say.

    Blues could end up 2nd overall and how must they feel to have to play in the play offs? Stupid format this. It is flawed.

    @Puma(Puma)-5: They are still in it but it will be tough to win it from position 5 and 6. You have to win an away quarter and semi to win the whole thing.

    @grant10(grant10)-1: I felt the same.
