GARETH DUNCAN analyses the major schoolboy action from across the country for the long weekend.
In the Cape, Wynberg host SACS in a major southern suburb derby. Both teams haven’t had impressive campaigns this year, so they’ll be going all out for a win which will give them bragging rights. Both have the potential to grab a victory in this traditional fixture, but Wynberg will be favourites with home ground advantage.
Most of the focus will be on the Grey College/Affies derby, but another top school will be in action up north. KES, who have rallied to 12 victories from their 13 matches in 2011, will tackle lowly St John’s. This should be an easy victory for KES.
Top-rated Eastern Cape school Selborne have an easy fixture against Grens, one of the many smaller rugby teams they have faced this season. Expect a crushing win. St Andrew’s, who missed their match against the former due to heavy rain last weekend, take on Kingswood at home. St Andrew’s will be desperate for some success after a dismal year so far.
There are two big KZN derbies on Saturday. Hilton travel to Michaelhouse, who come off back-to-back defeats to Maritzburg College and Kearsney. Michaelhouse will be favourites to end their losing streak. Glenwood, who will be on a high after a magical comeback over College last weekend, take on the challenging Westville.
