Aussie latest – Robinson boost for Reds
22 Jun 2011
Keo.co.za brings you news from Australia’s Super Rugby franchises.
Robinson boost for Reds – Beau Robinson has returned to the training field and should be available for the Reds’ semi-final match next week.
The openside flank is likely to replace Liam Gill for the game in Brisbane, and coach Ewen McKenzie will hope that a few other first-choice players are fit.
The backline depth has been tested of late, with a string of injuries resulting in Caleb Ralph coming out of retirement to lend a hand.
Mumm to succeed Waugh – Dean Mumm will captain the Waratahs in 2012.
With the Waratahs snubbing Rocky Elsom and Phil Waugh retiring at the end of the 2011 season, Mumm is the obvious choice as the Sydney side’s new skipper. Mumm has already led the team in Waugh’s absence this season.

Laim Gill was outstanding against the chiefs last week but Robbo is all-time. Bring on the semi’s.

The Australian Rugby Union must expand the contracted squad limit of each province due to the worst injury crisis in the competition’s history, believes Waratahs coach Chris Hickey.
The longer Super Rugby season, which this year expanded from 14 to 18 weeks plus finals, has seen a number of high-profile stars fall victim to injuries, including Wallabies Tatafu Polota-Nau, Sekope Kepu, Luke Burgess, Al Baxter, Ryan Cross, Digby Ioane, James Slipper, Beau Robinson, Nathan Sharpe, and All Blacks Richie McCaw, Sonny Bill Williams and Rene Ranger.

We’re heading back to the old days when locks were captain’s in most the teams… I like it!
4 out of 5 Aussie teams now have a lock as their captain…
Have your say
