Five people died in a car accident involving the U19 Griquas CD team bus near Klerksdorp on Thursday night.

The team was traveling back from an U19 Pukke week in Potchefstroom when a car tried to make a U-turn on the N12 highway 13km outside Klerksdorp.

Griquas chairperson of high schools Danie Slabbert confirmed that there were five fatalities, including head coach Kobus Naude while the four passengers in the other vehicle also died on the scene.

Assistant coach Francois Olberholtzer was seriously injured while two players escaped with minor injuries.
