Western Cape boys take day one
26 Jun 2011
The Western Cape schools won three of the five derbies on day one at the Cape Schools Rugby Week at Dale College on Saturday.
SACS, Paarl Gym and Rondebosch rounded up victories over Grey PE, St Andrew’s and Dale respectively while Selborne and Queen’s beat Wynberg and Boland Landbou in tight contests.
Suprisingly, SACS – who have been struggling on the schools circuit this season – recorded the most convincing win as they thumped Grey PE 17-0 in a one-sided contest. Gimmies also won comfortably in the end, but they had to work hard for their win as they trailed 10-7 at the break.
Queen’s overturned a 7-0 deficit to win 14-7 while Selborne edged Wynberg 11-8 after holding a six-point advantage at half-time. Rondebosch spoilt Dale’s 150th-anniversary celebrations as they pipped the hosts 15-12.
Meanwhile, Muir thrashed De Vos Malan 32-0 in a local Eastern Cape game.
Day two fixtures will be played on Monday, which will showcase five Western Cape-Eastern Cape school derbies. The match of the day will see Paarl Gym take on Selborne.

That SACS result is sensational! The Fallen do have what it takes to challenge for Cape Town’s superiority, don’t they? If they stop messing around then a top 10 placing in SA is not too far off…

Pity about Dale. Have dropped a couple of games in close games. Have a fierce counter-ruck. Grey High have had a forgettable season. Been beaten by virtually all their regular rivals this year. But the talent seems well distributed among the Cape schools.

Selborne vs Paarl Gym should be a cracker.
Have your say
