EC schools falter on final day

The Western Cape schools secured a clean sweep on day three at the Cape Schools Rugby Week in King William’s Town.

From the 15 Western Cape-Eastern Cape derbies played over the three days at the festival, the Western Cape schools picked up 11 triumphs. Rondebosch and SACS claimed unbeaten campaigns with their wins over St Andrew’s (35-16) and hosts Dale (23-16) respectively on the final day while Wynberg, Paarl Gym and Boland Landbou ensure the Westerners would return home with bragging rights.

Boland Landbou picked up the most unlikeliest of victories when they beat this season’s top Eastern Cape school and No 2-ranked Selborne 19-18 in the day three opener. This result will be remembered as the upset of the festival as it ended Selborne’s unbeaten run this year.

Paarl Gym recorded a 14-7 win to give Queen’s their first defeat while Wynberg thrashed Muir 45-20.

Day 3 fixtures and results:
Boland Landbou 19 Selborne 18
Rondebosch 35 St Andrew’s 16
Muir 20 Wynberg 45
Queen’s 7 Paarl Gym 14
Dale 16 SACS 23

Landbou have always given Selborne a hard time at Cape Schools Week been some epic encounters over the years, congratulations!
Border School definitively put themselves at a bit of disadvantage on the last day by rotating their Craven Week Players.

I see the Selborne Pups lost their unbeaten run. Ouch. Hope Dale adds to their woes in a few weeks time …
