EP crowned U16 kings

Eastern Province downed the SWD Eagles 34-12 in the unofficial final at the U16 Grant Khomo Week in Queenstown.

EP qualified for the final match after their victories over WP (14-10) and the Lions (13-3) on day one and two respectively. SWD also impressed as they thumped KZN (25-8) and the Blue Bulls (22-10).

The host province then rallied to a 22-point win against SWD to claim top honours. EP crossed the chalk through wing Jason Vers, hooker Justin Antonie, eighthman Martin Groenewald, inside centre Peet Schoeman and lock Sintu Majenzi. Flyhalf Theo Stapelberg added three conversions and a penalty.

SWD grabbed consolation scores through flanker Geor Malan and outside centre Douw Schoeman.

The Free State U16s were the other top performers as they enjoyed an unbeaten run at the tournaments with wins over the Valke (22-15), WP (11-6) and Griquas CD (45-7).
