NZ latest – SBW off to Chiefs?

Keo.co.za brings you news from New Zealand’s Super Rugby franchises.

SBW off to Chiefs? – According to New Zealand media reports, Sonny Bill Williams will play for the Chiefs next year if he resigns with the NZRU.

The inside centre is believed to have played his last match for the Crusaders after the 18-13 Super Rugby final defeat to the Reds. Williams has admitted before that the series of earthquakes that hit Christchurch this year has had a negative influence on whether he’ll stay with the seven-time champions.

Good news for the Crusaders is that scrumhalf Andy Ellis and wings Zac Guildford and Sean Maitland have confirmed extensions while rookie fullback Tom Marshall is set to commit in the near future. Flyhalf Dan Carter will be available next season if he doesn’t activate his sabbatical clause.

    Time for some player moves then….

    Sadie and Engelbrecht off to the Bulls, and now I hear a rumor that the Sharks are in fairly advanced negotiations with some WP U20 players who featured in the U20 world cup. These things happen when a unions strategy is clearly to sign big established names, while ignoring their young talent.

    @Dusky(Dusky)-13:

    Clearly the Stormers and WP are trying to buy trophies over the short term rather than investing in young players. It reeks of desperation.

    But to be fair, a few big names to the Stormers’ balance sheet might actually buy them a trophy soon – considering their performances over the last two years and the makeup of the domestic competition.

    The Bulls, for example, are forced to invest in young players since the crux of their resources responsible for trophy success of late are leaving.

    If ever there was a time for the Stormers to cash in (no pun intended) it is now.

    The Blues & Chiefs seem to be very active in the transfer/recruitment market.

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-15: The Chiefs also have Dave Rennie and Wayne Smith as new coaches, I believe alot of young nz players will be moving to the chiefs

    Might be good for Smith to get away from AB scene,bit stagnant there since he left Saders in 2001 hasnt left.After all he created the Saders system from inception and ever since Deans and others have ridden the wave….Maybe its time he get back to franchise footy

    NZ Herald seems to suggest that SBW is off to the Blues to form a rather formidable centre-pairing with Ma’a Nonu.

    Who plays 12 ?
