Currie Cup latest – Brummer cleared to face WP

Keo.co.za brings you news from the Currie Cup.

Brummer cleared to face WP – Francois Brummer has overcome a rib injury and will start at flyhalf for the Bulls.

Coach Pine Pienaar has avoided making changes to the starting line up from last week. There are however, two changes to the reserves, with Tuks lock Warwick Tecklenberg coming in for Okkie Kruger and Lohan Jacobs replacing Ruan Snyman.

Bulls – 15 Jurgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Stephan Dippenaar, 12 Stefan Watermeyer, 11 Gerhard van den Heever, 10 Francois Brummer, 9 Dustin Jinka, 8 Gerrit-Jan van Velze, 7 Dewald Potgieter, 6 Derick Kuun, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Fudge Mabeta, 3 Rossouw de Klerk, 2 Gary Botha, 1 Corne Fourie.
Subs: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Warrick Tecklenberg, 19 CJ Stander, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 Marnitz Boshoff, 22 Francois Venter.

Meanwhile, the Bulls have resigned lock Wilhelm Steenkamp for 2012 and 2013. The player left for the Cheetahs in 2010 for more game time, but will return to Pretoria next season.

Strauss leads Lions – Josh Strauss will captain the Lions in the absence of Doppies la Grange against the Leopards in Johannesburg this Saturday.

La Grange is ruled out of this weekend’s match after picking up a hamstring injury against Griquas last Saturday. Strauss will take charge as the Lions attempt to win their opening three Currie Cup fixtures for the first time since 2003.

Alwyn Hollenbach replaces La Grange at outside centre.

Lions – 15 Michael Killian, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Waylon Murray, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Lionel Mapoe, 10 Burton Francis, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Joshua Strauss (c), 7 Derick Minnie, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Pat Cilliers.

Steenkamp reverts to Bulls – Lock Wilhelm Steekamp will leave the Cheetahs after the Currie Cup to rejoin the Bulls.

Steenkamp has signed a two-year contract with the Bulls, and his return will be welcomed considering the Bulls will be losing Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha and Danie Rossouw.

Sarel out for three weeks -Griquas scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius will be sidelined for another three weeks.

Griquas team manager Human Kriek confirmed this with keo.co.za as Pretorius is still out with a knee injury.

The Kimberley-based union suffered another blow heading into their match against the Pumas as second-choice scrumhalf Shannon Rick has fallen ill and flyhalf Monty Dumond is also injured. Both won’t make the trip to Nelspruit. This will see Marnus Hugo and Earl Rose start in the No 9 and No 10 jersey this weekend.

Amazing how much articles are here about the boks when aqll Keo journos keep saying the |tri nations is not important.. its the WC that is….

Anyways… See another Hiding coming for WP… Craig Joubert is the ref!!
Keo: Can you please give the precise stats for WP win/loss ratio with him as ref the last two years?? Off the top of my head I know it is now something like 5 losses out of 5 games from Him against WP Including two finals and a semi…??? Shocking!!

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-5: I tried to find stats on Craig Joubert rugby games history, cannot even find it with google!! Its like top secret stuff!! Why is everyone so secretive about it.. I probably asked for the stat here on Keo about 10 times… but he is silent!! Either he cannot find the stats himself or he is too terrible a rugby Journo to have it…

Provvas and Sasuke, you will probably find that Joubert actually reffed fairly, and was not scared to blow the mistakes Stormers/WP infringements

@Provvas(Provvas)-4: Well do we always get Joubert in play off games too?

    2010 S14 Final
    2010 CC Final
    2011 S15 semi

Th oke is from Durban so it’s no surprised that we got nailed in the CC final v the Sharks, but we really do get nailed when he’s got the whistle

@lion4ever(lion4ever)-7: well depends on you understanding of fair… Listen to his “coaching this weekend… he will warn wp players all day.. roll out tackler no hands off… take a step back… and then 10 seconds later.. advantage to bulls.. you will not here this for bulls players.. and after hands in the ruck all you will hear is turn over is good!!!

He is a Anti Wp ref and thats that!! 0 / 5 tells the story my friend!!

@Provvas(Provvas)-4: Ja the semi’s against Saders was his fault as well

@capebull(capebull)-14: I never said it was his fault no did I?? But did our props really became mash in two weeks? They performed well all season, until Craig Allowed them to hit in early.. on our scrums we got penalised for this and freekcks to saders, on their scrum if it happened he reset the scrum no penalty…

Never did I say we woudl have won that game if it was another ref. But it would not be 29 -10.. Craig have this habbit of having Wp behind in the first 20 minutes…. think back to the s14 final vs bulls, CC final vs Sharks and semi vs Saders.. not in one game in the rest of the season this happened against other teams?? Why is that you think?
It is so easy for him to nail us in the begiinig.. there is a thing as a turning point when players actually believe they are doing wrong when the ref coaches them the whole game.. come Sateruday open your eyes and look at this plonker….. Oh and take off your Bulls glasses…if it is at all possible

wilhem steenkamp back to the bulls?
    interesting.

Seems the bulls use the cheetahs as a “loan” deal union.
