Currie Cup latest – Benjamin back for Cheetahs

Keo.co.za brings you news from the Currie Cup.

Benjamin back for Cheetahs – Ryno Benjamin will return to the Cheetahs’ run-on side for their game against the Sharks in Durban this weekend.

The wing was a late injury withdrawal from the 33-30 defeat to the Bulls last weekend, but has recovered in time to retain his place on Saturday while Philip Snyman returns to the bench.

Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Riaan Smit, 13 Corne Uys, 12 Andries Strauss (c), 11 Ryno Benjamin, 10 Sias Ebersohn, 9 Tewis de Bruyn, 8 Boom Prinsloo, 7 Lappies Labuschagne, 6 Johan Wessels, 5 Waltie Vermeulen, 4 Francois Uys, 3 WP Nel, 2 PW van Vuuren, 1 Marcel van der Merwe.
Subs: 16 Michael van Vuuren, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Izak van der Westhuizen, 19 Pieter Myburgh, 20 Piet van Zyl, 21 Philip Snyman, 22 Philip Burger.

Viljoen signs with Sharks – Riaan Viljoen has signed with the Sharks for next season.

The fullback, who played for the Cheetahs in Super Rugby, is the latest Griquas player to leave the Kimberley-based union. Scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius confirmed his move away to the Waratahs last month while centre Barry Geel and flanker Davon Raubenheimer have signed for the Cheetahs for 2012.

Late change for Lions – Speedster Lionel Mapoe has picked up a late knee injury and will miss the Lions’ match against the Leopards this Saturday.

Former Stormers man Dylan des Fountain replaces Mapoe. Jannie Boshoff or Andries Coetzee will provide back cover on the bench.

Was supposed to be a Stormer dragon.

Oh, well. So much for the rumours. Wouldn’t be surprised if Brussouw joins him there.
Things seem to have gone quiet on the merry-go-round.

Great news – Louis Ludik wasn’t really working out.

That actually puts it better than what I originally did….

So with the froggy at 10 and Viljoen at 15…..where will Lambie fit in?
    Bosman….. you get the message?

Hmm I can’t see why he went to the Sharks. Lambie likely fullback, and Ludik is also there?

Would’ve made more sense at the Stormers where he only would have had to force Gio Aplon onto the wing.

    Money talks.

@HHS(Hop Hop Spinnekop)-5: Michalak can play scrum-half too

    @Big Hit(Big Hit)-7:

Yes he can play scrumhalf but not as well as flyhalf. Whole point of him at 10 is he creates go-forward ball better then most flyhalves in the game. He’d be nothing more then a last resort at scrumhalf.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bosman gets less game-time next year and Lambie ends up spending a lot of time at 12. I hope not, but wouldn’t be surprised.

Plumtree obviously sees something in Meyer Bosman, that the fanatical Sharks supporters don’t!! Side bet Bosman will still be the prefered 12 next year!

Sharks have a history of not seeing the value in players. Does Barritt ring a bell.

Dunno for how long froggy has been contracted, but be sure that Lambie will be in the team. Viljoen is a very good player too, so I dunno what the Sharks thinking is.

    Maybe they want Michalak 9, Lambie 10, Mvovo 11, Bosman 12, Joubert 13, JPP 14, Viljoen 15.

@Big Hit(Big Hit)-7: You want the froggy at 10. If Lambie plays 12 I could see a weakness in the 10/12 channel. Or Riaan Viljoen will move to the wing (who will he replace Petersen/Mvovo? I don’t think so) if Lambie plays 15. Or Riaan will be the next JLP.
