Jean de Villiers will be given the rest of the week to recover in time to face Samoa in Pretoria. Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer wants his captain to lead the side in the Boks final international of the month. If De Villiers does not recover from the chest injury, Jan Serfontein will start at inside centre. Morne Steyn again starts ahead of Pat Lambie. Willem Alberts will also be given the next 48 hours to prove his fitness. Adriaan Strauss retains the run on No 2 jersey while Bismarck du Plessis is nursed back after nine months out of the game. Boks - 15. Willie le Roux, 14. Bryan ... Read Article1 Jun 2013
The Bulls are South Africa's best team and they proved it in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs have been outstanding all season and they were as good on Saturday night as they have been at any stage. Still it wasn't good enough to beat the Bulls, who won 30-25 after leading 30-13 with 10 minutes to play. The Cheetahs finished brilliantly and deserved the bonus point, but the Bulls consolidated their top two league placing thanks to an imposing first hour. Pierre Spies was impressive as team and pack leader, Arno Botha was ever present and the No 9, 10, 12 Bulls axis of Francois Hougaard, Morne ... Read Article11 Jun 2013
Brendan Venter's appointment as Sharks Director of Rugby is a good one. But the decision to end John Plumtree's Sharks coaching tenure is not. Former Springbok and Italy coach Nick Mallett turned down an invitation for the role of Sharks Director of Rugby and Venter, formerly the head coach and Director of Rugby at Saracens, will start his job at the outset of the Currie Cup season. Plumtree remains the Super Rugby head coach until the end of this season's tournament but his contract has not been renewed. Plumtree is highly rated in Europe and will in all likelihood link up with a European ... Read Article8 Jun 2013
Rene Ranger was among the few highlights in New Zealand's 23-13 win against France in Auckland. The All Blacks led 17-10 at half time but France dominated field position for most of the match and enjoyed the greater quality in possession. However they couldn't translate the advantage in the set phase and at the breakdown into points. New Zealand defended well in a match of poor quality. France lead early through Wesley Fofana's try and it took Ben Smith's break to start up New Zealand's international season. Smith has been the form New Zealand back in Super Rugby and he looked a class ... Read Article27 May 2013
Kiwi Vern Cotter is Scotland's new head coach. Cotter will only take up the position in a year's time. He will see out his contact with French club Clermont. Cotter's appointment means that New Zealanders will coach Scotland, Ireland (Joe Schmidt) and Wales (Warren Gatland). New Zealander Robbie Deans has been at the helm of Australia for the last five years and current Blues coach John Kirwan coached Italy and Japan. Kiwi coaches have also been at the helm of Samoa and Fiji in recent years. Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article27 Jul 2011

Thanks for that, I was a ‘medical experiment’ a few weeks ago, results posted but I have no idea what they meant!!
I am the wrong side of 40, you are correct!!
That is a long way to swim…..Respect!

@wallabie.(wallabie.)-191:
But surely you would not turn up even on your own blog looking like you just walked out of the sports shop?
Keo does very scary ‘slurping’….Do you suppose he has ever seen people eating like that, he must frequent some real dives!!

@Dawn(Dawn)-199:
What should Keo wear for his ‘broadcasts’….he wore a white shirt and looked like he had no body on one, could not hear what he was saying just watched the head with no body!!
Now the ‘I have just come out of the gym’ look when obviously he goes nowhere near a gym!!

graham henry broke sanzar rules even BEFORE super rugby started, even before mccaw metatarsal(sp) was an issue ted has booked him off the 1st 2 weeks of super rugby, the year before it was brad thorn. i don’t remember you b*tching about “respect for rugby union” then
– i wonder why?
super rugby is a Sanzar competition & mccaw was pulled from it by henry…chew on that.

Where are they now?

That’s quite impressive ET-1,5 – 2 miles a day and the HB is also quite low.
Do you just swim distance or do you do intervals etc?
But please do not try and lure Carol into becoming a swimmer.
She got a terrible “head up” and “closed eyes” style and might drown if the water is deeper than 3 feet and she “drifts away from the wall.
Her cycling and running is impressive though.

Celeriac, bit like celery.
Fennel sort of strangely ‘Herby’ hard to explain, smells nice.
I LOVE vinegar, especially Balsamic!!

Just because you can do the face in the water sort of speedy Olympic swimming, I prefer the swimming where you can admire the view!

The Boks are precisely in this predicament because too much emphasis is attached to the World Cup where the minnows are allowed on the same stage as the big boys. Every 4 years.
Every single test that the Boks play is important. Every single test that the Boks play in, they should have a chance of winning.
You only have to listen to what John Smit has been saying today. The Boks have given up already. To me, the Bok jersey has been sullied.
So what if the Boks are in a training camp in Rustenburg. Who is to blame for this? I look no further than Sanzar themselves and SARU as well for agreeing to this folly. By agreeing to an extended Super 15 and the first Tri-nations match being staged 2 weeks after the S15 final.
History is merely repeating itself from what happened in 2007.
Expect the same sort of thing in 2015.

@I am a stormer(I am a stormer)-215: Just a quick post. Flew up to Joburg this morning and only back now. So not enough time to read posts or even that I want too. Just too many.
I agree think saru agreeing to this daft new S15 format was total madness. They to blame here. Also I don’t agree with a Tri-Nations in a world cup year. Just makes for far too much rugby. Then takes the gloss off of playing Oz or Nz if we do in the wc.
We can see the affects of the S15 right now. Even our B Boks are coming home with injuries. Now if that were our top Boks I would be angry. With saru of course. They are the ones that got these players into the mess by accepting the daft new format of the S15.

You beat me to it. Interesting that they went with last years centre pairing.

@Robzim(Robzim)-209:
The heat here in the last 10 days(up to w-e) has been quite crazy with even a 114 degrees F here and the many other 100s consecutively.
Once you establish the rhythm and the discipline it becomes as easy as driving an automatic and since I have access to a pool all year round(heated in winter) and the sea even when in Florida I have run out of excuses.
I have been at this for 15 yrs. now and never did less than 1/2 mile at anytime except when lightning threatens.
I used to swim often in the summer at UCTs Woolsack pool but there are many there at anytime and that cannot be done in winter. My pulse rate then, even with swimming and small time squash(followed by two quick beers) was 72bpm but once I came here(with the less distractions of friends clearly)I established a regimen to where it is now.
I have no desire to do 2 miles a day at least 5 days a week as it is not necessary for those benefits when I can get same at 1 mile a day and feel really good.
Robbo I just do the distance and nothing else. It is just head in the water and confidence at arriving at the correct breathing rhythm at whatever thhe demand and using mostly the crawl and breastrokes. Now and again out of boredom I swim at a faster rate for about 5-10 lengths. I spend up to 70 or so mins in the pool when not disturbed.
27 Jul 2011, 21:38 pm
@I am a stormer(I am a stormer)-215: saru also agreeing to send our best Boks in a world up year to the Tri-Nations. Madness. They should have negotiated no Tri-Nations for world cup year. Greedy bunch. Just thinking of the money. Players are played into the ground. Should be thinking of the players

Yeah. Tri-nations every 2 years. I’ve said it before.
And not in a WC year. Then we wouldn’t have 2 nothing articles and a fatty on TV together with close to 800 posts already.

I admire your attitude to exercise (I hope correct eating too) and just wish more would engage in that past-time and especially of your gender.
I am glad I gave some units with examples of normal ranges too and bp is extremely important as that one can give you NO symptoms often(the silent killer it is, hypertension). Any measurement of 145/80 should see one go to a doctor for assessment and possible medication(good ones exist for this and high cholesterol levels).
You would surely, with that healthy attitude, been regarded as an excellent subject for that investigation.
Just keep up the good effort. It ensures quality of life for a long time.

27 Jul 2011, 23:22 pm
Hey Transie
just so that we’re both on the same page….I really couldn’t care less what Keos no1 Apologist thinks either. Yet again you deliver a cut’n'paste job here to somehow represent what appears to be your ‘own’ opinion.
The difference betw you and me is that I castigated GH in 2007 for pulling players out of the S12. You simply don’t have enough spine to criticise Krusty for an even greater crime because you’re always so caught up in winning every little battle that you end up completely losing sight of the war. Keeping boxing shadows at midnight, Colonel van Trapp.

The Tri Nations’ TV sponsors are those who are calling the shots
If the rating of the Special Transmissions, Per Per Views and series subscriptions are dropped compared to last year, SANZAR partners will take hits.
Pro Rugby is all about money, so it makes a good business sense that Aus and SA feels they’ll recap their losses by advancing to the quarter final and beyonds at the RWC
Time will tell

” There are few better in world rugby let alone SA rugby that can match Rassie in a video room or on a white board ”
Is the apple larger than the tree?
So you are saying that “world rugby” fits in somewhere in ” SA rugby”?
Yet in 42 days S.Africa, the country bumkins, will be playing in a World Cup of Rugby, a competition of this Planet Earth which we often refer to as the world.
These stupid things happen when you do NOT have a feel or grasp or command for a real first world language let alone stupidly attempt to use it for all the world to see your ‘blooper’ and thus your folly.

this wasn’t 2007, GH pulled McCaw for 2 weeks in the 2011 super rugby season, where was your sanctiomonious mug then? Duplicitous much?
You’re here talking about ‘bigger crimes’, please. The letter of the Sanzar contract says ‘the best available players have to play’, well richie was ‘rested’
deal with it!

Lol. You are a twaat. You misunderstand PAs simple sentence and demonstrate your poor knowledge of the language you then go on to chastise PA for using incorrectly.
It is just too funny to see you try and fail in your ludicrous attempts at writing in a style that you actually feel highlights your higher ‘intelligence’. But meanwhile, you can hardly grasp basic punctuation and just prove to all and sundry how much of a fraud you are.

It takes a special kind of bitter and twisted little napoleon to draw parallels with Rustenburg and Kamp Staaldraad.
Of course when Keo was in the Bok set up he was responsible for all the good stuff and the bad stuff was either Harry’s, Andre’s or Rudolf’s fault.
Some people never grow up and can’t drop a grudge. Judging by most bloggers they mostly see through the Keo’s motives.
I think we should all give him a cuddle and tell him he’s wonderful.

28 Jul 2011, 13:46 pm
Captain con Trapp
so let’s just get this right
You’re saying that McCaw – with a steel pin in a broken metatarsal – having to be re re-habed, during the S15, is in some way equal to resting 23 players, with various niggles, for Test rugby ?
THAT is an argument you’re willing to back with allegations of ‘duplicitousness’ ?
rrrrrrreally ?!
my God. Stoopid is as stoopid does, Forrest Stumped.
