RWC latest – Samoa have high hopes

Keo.co.za brings you news related to the World Cup.

Samoa have high hopes – Samoa are confident that they will record a big victory at the World Cup after the recent win against Australia.

‘The win has caused a lot of excitement in Samoa,’ said Samoa prop, Sakaria Taulafo. ‘People were reminded of our win [at the World Cup] over Wales in 1991. Samoans are again thinking, yes, we can do it.

‘Everyone is still so excited. I’m really happy to be part of something special, but it’s important to keep calm and not get too carried away. We’re focused on our goals – of making the World Cup quarter-finals and then try to go one further.’

Let’s not forget this same Samoa team lost to Tonga and Fiji recently, and finished last in the Pacific cup which was won by Japan. Good team but not the business yet.

    Wales should be careful.

@Delki(Delki)-1: Was that not without their overseas based players?

Was it not the Boks of 2007 RWC who were one tackle away from losing the Quarter final against Fiji…maybe samoa have something up their sleeves.

It can be argued and rightly so that many a top team has come and has almost come unstuck in tight games at these RWC’s.

Isn’t that what is supposed to happen in any world cup…whether it be football, rugby or cricket? If all these games were foregone conclusions the fans would not bother to turn up.

Samoa had a poor tournament last time out, but were good in ’91, 99 and ’03, this could be their year.
