Brown’s RWC dream ends – Wallabies back rower Richard Brown has been forced to undergo shoulder surgery that will preclude him from World Cup selection.

Brown wasn’t in the preliminary squad but coach Robbie Deans is known to be an admirer of him. However, Brown said he had shoulder reconstruction in the interest of his career.

‘It hasn’t been good for a while. I just wasn’t playing as well as I could,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald. ‘I knew when I hurt myself last year it was going to be hard to make the World Cup. I knew I was going to have to push through to make it but I couldn’t push through it any more. I need the operation and that’s it. It’s best to have it now and get it over with to get ready for next season. I’m disappointed but that’s life, I guess.’

Meanwhile, the Wallabies’ loose forward stocks are in further danger of being depleted after news that Wycliff Palu has had surgery to his knee. The Waratahs No 8 is in the process of rehabilitation from a shoulder injury and said he saw an opportunity to fix up a knee niggle while he was recovering. Palu remains confident of recovering in time to be consider for World Cup selection.

    Aussies cannot afford to loose players due to injury but they cannot rest players either because lack of depth, rock and hard place

    Brown is surplus….we have Palu, Mcalman, elsom and Higgin gotham who can play eigthman.

    Higgin gotham, is that the guy from batman movie? You cannot debate the fact that aussies don’t have depth, don’t tell me matt “clueless against samoa” giteau will be back up flyhalf, also don’t mention derrick ” my head hurts” barnes as back up flyhalf or centre

    @ Mighty Horua(Mighty Horua), there is no team that can sent there B team to play top 3 nations away from home and expext to win but yes I agree, Nz have the most debt. Think of some Nz players playing overseas like evans, howlett and hayman, scary stuff!
