No room for Lambie

No room for Lambie

Patrick Lambie has been left out of the 24-man Springbok squad selected for the Tri-Nations Tests in South Africa.

As expected, coach Peter de Villiers has recalled the majority of the players that were precluded from the Australasian tour. The players that won’t be considered due to injuries are Schalk Burger (hand), Juan Smith (Achilles), Andries Bekker (ankle), Willem Alberts (shoulder), Johann Muller (hamstring) and Duane Vermeulen (knee).

Surprisingly, Lambie is excluded from the group, as Butch James and Morne Steyn are listed as the flyhalf options. Chiliboy Ralepelle also hasn’t made the 24-man cut despite his impressive efforts on tour.

Burger, Smith and Alberts won’t be considered for the Test against Australia on 13 August, but will join the squad in Durban and continue with their rehabilitation. Cheetahs flank Heinrich Brussow will be assessed after this weekend’s Currie Cup match against WP, and if the Bok medical team is satisfied with his progress, he may come into contention for next week’s Test.

The big bolter is Gerhard Mostert, who wins a place in the squad ahead of Bulls No 4 lock Flip van der Merwe. Mostert made his debut against the All Blacks last week.

‘It’s very satisfying to see that Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha have now largely overcome their injuries but they still require management as we have a shortage of fit locks at the moment,’ said De Villiers.

‘We also have injury problems among the loose forwards but I am hopeful that all of the four who are not currently in the playing squad will be ready for selection by the time of the World Cup.’

The squad will assemble in Durban on Sunday.

I believe that steggman is 2nd best after brussow.

the penalty count argument is always a daft to me.

richie mccaw has conceded more penalties than any other player, ever.

regrettably, as an opensider, it’s almost as if….it is what you do not get blown for that counts the most. And mccaw and lately,Pocock..get away with murder in between their penalty counts.

And even worse….mccaw never gets carded, regardless.

not quite sure i’d pick stegman over francois louw if brussow is injured, at the risk of Agile doing a backflip and possible recieving a triple bypass.

I watch the bulls, alot, to say the least.

I don’t remember flip ever starting a game yet….nor even getting a full 40 minutes.

it’s either been matfield and bakkies or matfield and roussow. And, even then…when Bakkies has featured, flip has dropped from the match 22 entirely on occassion because roussow covers from the bench.

mostert has still played more than that.

    correct?

So the all of the positions for the backs have been filled and Bambie is not going to the RWC … how can this be when sharkievarkie told us that he is the best.

I guess that he and Elton will just have to fight it out for 2015 … and we know who is going to win

At least I back my views with evidence and then all of a sudden you can’t reach any of these guys for comment, and certainly not a good one. THey just can’t respond. But in case a guy knows anything about what went down on the day, and reads the comments, he can agree with me lolz.

interestingly enough, for Lambie…..as soon as Freddie M showed up for the “must win games”, Lambie got put at 15. Freddie M slotted in at 10 breaking up a season long combo of 9/10/12 with 7 days prep.

and Freddie M has test matches as a 15 under his belt.

doesn’t say much for Lambie in my humble opinion.

he was not rubbish, just not influential
if you are a smaller loose forward, picked primarily for turnovers then at the end of a mtach the turnover count is 1 SA – 8 NZ, you dont need to be in the starting team. you are small and are not producing the goods for your role

Devious Div strikes again. The genius!

Only 2 real loosies in the squad, neither of which is a fetcher!

    The brilliant plan is obvious.

Div still believes we have to have both Smit and Bismark in the team, and with the experiment of converting Smit into a tighthead having been shelved, we are now going to convert Bismark into a world class number 6 (in SA) openside fetcher flank. Our new-look back row will be:
    6 Bismark
    7 Deysel
    8 Spies

I wish I’d thought of it.

@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-209: Well you don’t know much then. You so wrong Brigadier.

The only reason Lambie was shifted to FB when Freddie came was so we had a top class fb. Sharks never had one. So once we moved Lambie to FB and Freddie to fh. We beat your Bulls. NOW do you remember or have you forgotten that conveniently?

Lambie is the only player South Africa has that can play EQUALLY well at fb, fh and 12. Others can play their prefered position well but the other position they cover is not as great.

So you see Lambie was shifted to FB in the last games of the S15 cause we had another great fh not that Freddie took Lambies place, but rather we NEEDED Lambie that can play fb just as great as he does fh.

It could also be that PdV said he was happy with Lambie at fh. Now maybe Morne needs game time there cause he has not been that great. Or out of form. So let Morne play the home leg of the 3N. Well it could be. There are still 5 places left for the wc squad. Cause Chili will go. So add thim to this 24 players selected.

Pity, because most bloggers here, including myself, only have fun, are trolling or try to get a feel for the views out there. Use you talent to analyse the game as a whole, be objective and include a few other players in your analysis.

So I am counting 5 places left.

If Juan gets over his injury he will go. If Juan goes will Deysel go? I think yes just in case Juan’s injury flares up. Alberts will cover at 8. Well I think he will.

If Brussow is over his injury he will go.

3 places left. Who else will make it for wc?

For too long Div has been protected like royal game he has been a disaster. I think after the world cup we need to dress Div up in a tutu give him a spanner and find him a job as a mechanic and show him black, white, pink or green people will pay him what he’s worth. Four years of lottery wins is enough time to move on. Better yet he should just take Makhenkesi Stofile’s advice to “keep his mouth shut and sober up”.
Never before in Bok rugby has a coach with a poor record who makes racist statements and continuously talks drivel never been sacked. It begs the question “who is he sleeping with?”

Yeah I thought so in post 247, if Juan Smith is fit put him in place of Deysel and then the 2 openside flankers and Chili, and then an extra winger, and that’s it.

Though they could reshuffle players all over the place, but this is likely the squad.
