KeoTV: Plan? What plan?

RYAN VREDE counters MARK KEOHANE’S argument that Peter de Villiers has engineered his current position, saying he hasn’t had an original plan that’s worked at any stage of his tenure.

So my point being that Jake White used 12 player from “other” coahes. Including only one world cup winner. Pieter de Viliiers will maybe use about 15 players from previous coaches. The big difference being these players are WC winners. Why not use them?

Having won two WC with local coaches and with Nick’s record to look at, i do not think SA Rugby can accept being coached by a foreigner.

I do not think it can work with our boys.

Gunther: how would you know about the toilet warming ritual at College? Gunther there could be a possibility of a friendship under certain conditions, you’ll have to upgrade your erroneous ranking of St. Andrew’s to top tier and confirm what everyone in the country has readily accepted that St. Andrew’s is without peer.

    Don’t worry.

St Andrews is not alone in the toilet warming stakes.

Now that you have confirmed the practice I am happy to announce their elevation the the premier league.

Madvillain: accepted that the Boks have collected two pieces of silverware at the WC, however, for the large part of between WCs, the Boks have lost routinely. Their game has not progressed from 1992 until 2011, SA has the largest player base in world rugby by a country mile, however, they’ve been dominated by an island which boasts more sheep than people! Statistically, the Boks should own the number 1 spot, and NZ and Aus should only borrow it from time to time. Under these circumstances, the only element of the SA rugby fraternity to blame is the coaching brotherhood. They are incapable of harnessing all the talent that exists in this country and that’s a shame. Employing a NZ or Aus coach who are accustomed to extracting the impossible with a small player pool is exactly what SA is desperate for.

@BullDog15-211: World cups are played completely different to “normal’international games. That is the reason why a team as dominant as New Zealand can’t seem to win world cups. The pressure is different and game plans change during world cups. So, is it possible to say that Pieter de Villiers game plan or as people like to believe Jake Whites game plan cannot work again. Remember the Boks struggled to make it to the final even with Jake Whites ” team and game plan”against Fiji. If it wasn’t for that tackle from JP Pietersen. Remember up until the WC Australia and New Zealand were dominating world rugby and they could play the modern trends at the time best. What happend to them in the WC?

@mpundulu 214: i must say the name mpundulu is funny. it’s like i should not be typing it at all. It sounds offish.

True true, our rugby has not progressed. I agree with you on all the things you’ve said; biggest player base and routine losses between WCs.

What i fear the most is pride, South African pride will not allow us to use a foreign coach. Heyneke or Rassie is what the establishment will get.

Eddie Jones might be acceptable because of Jake and the fact that he has taken Oz to a WC final. John Mitchell is not part of the foreign coaches we can use.

Apart from Eddie Jones i cant think of anyone immediately. You can come up with some list we can work with

  • 219.logie_Jumpbuck: Reply to this comment

Wall street and the bok team have something in common. They’re both bleeding heavily with no hope or light at the end of the tunnel.

  • 220.mpundulu: Reply to this comment

Madvillain: I agree with the SA pride element, which is a real impediment. SARU must get beyond this Meyer and Rassie won’t change anything, Meyer is the cause of the Boks playing the skop en jag plan, and worse Meyer with the Bulls is not capable of altering the gameplan to effect wins, the bulls have been worked out but Meyer can’t progress their approach. SA rugby from school level to national needs a holistic overhaul in game strategy, primarily from skills development perspective, and a modern gameplan.

I’d want either Ewan Mckenzie, Steve Hansen, Wayne Smith, Graham Henry, Warren gatland, Ian Forster. I would there to be a triumvirate of international standard coaches covering attack, defense, forwards, skills development, and backs. Whoever they are they must have full reign of directorship of rugby in south Africa for a minimum of 8 years.

  • 221.mpundulu: Reply to this comment

Madvillain: Critically, coach development institutes in each region must be established by SARU with these coaches providing the blueprint for the curriculum and focus of the institutes. This will ensure a uniform gameplan with a standard backbone but is tweaked from province to province by each respective coach. There’s a lot of scope here if we are serious about it.

If we are going to rate a coach on only winning the world cup and one Tri Nations and a Lions series then we have lost the plot. We have to rate the coaching team on their total wins, whether Tri Nations, EYOT, Friendlies, etc. The World Cup is a tournament and not the be all and end all – Well tell the All Blacks that!

Time for South Africans to realise that performance should be measured in terms of each international played.

I think that we should wait and see what happens against Wales. For all we know guys like Frans Steyn has shed some weight, Spies sharpend up his ball protection skills in contact and a few other things have been tweeked at the camp. I trust the following team to do what most of them have done before, which is, TO WIN THE RWC.
    15. Frans Steyn – World Cup winner
    14. JP peterson – World Cup winner
    13. Jaque Fourie – World Cup winner
    12. Jean De Villiers – 2 Tri-Nations and Lions
    11. Brian Habanna – World Cup winner
    10. Butch James – World Cup winner
    9. Fourie Du Preez – World Cup winner
    8. Willem Alberts – Big and strong
    7. Schalk Burger – World Cup winner
    6. Jaun Smith – World Cup winner / Brussouw if Smith is injured
    5. Victor Matfield – World Cup winner
    4. Bakkies Botha – World Cup winner
    3. Jannie Du Plesis – World Cup winner
    2. John Smit – World Cup winner
    1. Guthro Steenkamp ( If Fit )

    16. Bismark Du Plesis
    17. Beast
    18. Gerhard Mostert
    19. Danie Rossow
    20. Fracois Hougard

The Rustenburg 21 has two home games to effect Rassie’s new gameplan, thereafter, there are no more tryouts it’s straight to the WC. We’ll see what Rassie has conjured up next week against the Wallabies and then the week after the Boks will face the TRUTH in PE!

Ryan, to say Chilli is a political pawn is rubbish. I personilly think he has shown great form whenever he has been on the field this year. As for using the “11″ players from the last world cup, Rassie and Derick Coetzee, I would rather say he was stupid if he did not do this. Experience counts a lot. The players are comfortible with Rassie en Derick because they know them. These players will also have confidence in one another because they know and trust each other. They are a band of “brothers” that know what needs to be done and how to do it, cause they HAVE DONE IT BEFORE! Why find a different fitness coach for the world cup if you have one at your desposal that has brilliant knowledge of the tournament and how to condition these players to WIN the cup, as he has DONE before? Again, why do stupid things Ryan? Just to say he was different to Jake White? Maybe there is an honest DESIRE to WIN, not to say I did it MY way, but rather, I did it the RIGHT way.

  • 232.Transformation: Reply to this comment

@mpundulu(mpundulu)-229: rassie has no new gameplan, as technical adviser he will do analysis on opponents and bok deficiencies, present his finding to the coach and then they must decide what to do.

  • 233.mpundulu: Reply to this comment

Transie: it’s impossible for Rassie to purely serve an analytical role for one month, I’ll concede that’s his primary role but PdV, Gold, and Muir have been in the antipodes for the last several weeks, therefore, their focus has been on the Baby Boks, Rassie’s mandate I’m sure must be broader so in other words, he analyses opposition, the Boks, and then formulates a plan to bolster the Boks to overcome oppositions. This must have been what the Rustenburg 21 have been trying to implement for the last while, surely? The gameplan would have to be tweaked to meet the measure of the other teams. If then that’s not what happened PdV, Gold, and Muir have had a week to formulate, implement a new strategy.

Transie: uDeans akacacanga! 55% win ratio, no trinations silverware, and has shoddy EOYTs. As I said before this is a Dodgy Dingo in our mists!
