MARK KEOHANE, in Business Day Newspaper, writes the Boks gained more the battle in Nelspruit. Rather a scrap than a sensational effort against a courageous but limited Scotland. The Springbok coaching staff gained more because of the struggle against Scotland and there certainly won’t be complacency against Samoa. South African rugby supporters tend to be reactionary and very different in their reactions every weekend. When New Zealand struggled to beat France in the first Test in Auckland and South Africa were brilliant in patches against Italy many on social networks expressed confidence ... The Bulls are South Africa's best team and they proved it in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs have been outstanding all season and they were as good on Saturday night as they have been at any stage. Still it wasn't good enough to beat the Bulls, who won 30-25 after leading 30-13 with 10 minutes to play. The Cheetahs finished brilliantly and deserved the bonus point, but the Bulls consolidated their top two league placing thanks to an imposing first hour. Pierre Spies was impressive as team and pack leader, Arno Botha was ever present and the No 9, 10, 12 Bulls axis of Francois Hougaard, Morne ... Read Article11 Jun 2013
Brendan Venter's appointment as Sharks Director of Rugby is a good one. But the decision to end John Plumtree's Sharks coaching tenure is not. Former Springbok and Italy coach Nick Mallett turned down an invitation for the role of Sharks Director of Rugby and Venter, formerly the head coach and Director of Rugby at Saracens, will start his job at the outset of the Currie Cup season. Plumtree remains the Super Rugby head coach until the end of this season's tournament but his contract has not been renewed. Plumtree is highly rated in Europe and will in all likelihood link up with a European ... Read Article8 Jun 2013
Rene Ranger was among the few highlights in New Zealand's 23-13 win against France in Auckland. The All Blacks led 17-10 at half time but France dominated field position for most of the match and enjoyed the greater quality in possession. However they couldn't translate the advantage in the set phase and at the breakdown into points. New Zealand defended well in a match of poor quality. France lead early through Wesley Fofana's try and it took Ben Smith's break to start up New Zealand's international season. Smith has been the form New Zealand back in Super Rugby and he looked a class ... Read Article27 May 2013
Kiwi Vern Cotter is Scotland's new head coach. Cotter will only take up the position in a year's time. He will see out his contact with French club Clermont. Cotter's appointment means that New Zealanders will coach Scotland, Ireland (Joe Schmidt) and Wales (Warren Gatland). New Zealander Robbie Deans has been at the helm of Australia for the last five years and current Blues coach John Kirwan coached Italy and Japan. Kiwi coaches have also been at the helm of Samoa and Fiji in recent years. Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article17 Aug 2011

@JL1(JL1)-527:
that was quite funny for you, JL1
‘Krusty Kremes’ would have been the icing on the donut tho.
17 Aug 2011, 23:33 pm
Raubenheimer and Elstadt both better 7′s and better flanks full stop than Schalk
If Schalk weren’t suspended in 09 Boks would have lost Lions series and perhaps the 3N too.
Brussow won those games almost solo. Something Schalk could never do.

@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-548: you talk kuk 2 but 2 is best for you but 3 is too much you see and 1 is the bs coming out your mouth, instead of your bum.

17 Aug 2011, 23:35 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-549: My commments on this blog will not change Lapa Lip and his stooges opinion on John Smit
I do not have to drive the same point in, over and over and over
17 Aug 2011, 23:37 pm
@JL1(JL1)-504:
thats a Great shame, he is an immense player and 1 of the very best to come out of SA since isolation. A bitter blow for a superb player.

17 Aug 2011, 23:45 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-558: ok man why dont you just ignore the people you dont like instead of going off endlessly. You waste a huge amount of time and energy on people you dont agree with and it really is pointless. Lets just stick to rugby shall we? Some people here still dont get it with John Smit. Theyre thick as bricks but youre not going to change their minds. I agree on John Smit I think he should go definitely.
17 Aug 2011, 23:46 pm
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-551: Hey, I have another good one for you
Kiwi meets the Saffa at a braai and says, “man, can I watch the game at your house and have some beers and braai.I promise I will not whine, nor appear to be a know it all,or show any signs of entitlement. I also promise that I will nt be a hypocrite or judgemental and we can talk some Rugga”
Saffa replies:” Sounds great, you can have my best seat, have the jacuzzi, all our best Chablis and Champagne , I will pay you $10 000, and we will say nice things about you all the time, and sing the praises of your team non stop”
Kiwi:”Now you are lying”
Saffa:”You started the sht first”
17 Aug 2011, 23:48 pm
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-555: He would start in any international side, hard, clean, and clever
17 Aug 2011, 23:49 pm
@Dawn(Dawn)-456:
a bit selective about that one, Peaches. You have sexist pieces of sh*t here like Whatever and Fern, to name but a few, but it seems that as long as the target is Kiwi women, then the abuse is acceptable.
hmmmm ?
17 Aug 2011, 23:51 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-557: I agree, but I cannot change Lapa Lip and his selectors, Smit is a package, done and dusted
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-561: Referring to me, by any chance, you deserve to be stuck in Slumtown
17 Aug 2011, 23:51 pm
@JL1(JL1)-562:

17 Aug 2011, 23:53 pm
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-561:
they f’ng blind .. Smit is destroying this team from the roots up and these schmucks wanna keep repeating the same thing infinitely forever and still expect different results… absolute blind imbeciles the epitome of idiocy repeating the same garbage for 2 years solid and wondering WTF went wrong… went wrong… went wrong…. went wrong… and still going WRONG !!
Get Smit GONE and the world is Boks oyster once again.. keep him ANYWHERE near this setup and he brings the entire bloody system DOWN !! Self righteous self seeking self centered lardass useless git.
17 Aug 2011, 23:54 pm
@JL1(JL1)-563:
He was amazing at Soweto last year considering it was a comeback game from injury. Clean player too, which made him stand out in the Bok pack.
Yep, probably the best allround blindside flanker of the past decade – ballskills, mongrel, lineout and ticker. And loyal (the OFS) too. Cant ask for more than that.
17 Aug 2011, 23:56 pm
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-566: Gimme a break, I am not a Bill Hicks, just busking my way through a blog
Come on, not even one ha?
17 Aug 2011, 23:56 pm
@JL1(JL1)-565: I wasnt being specific to anyone – and I grew up in Slumtown but most certainly dont live there anymore. Either way there are worse places in the world to live.
17 Aug 2011, 23:57 pm
@JL1(JL1)-565:
You appear to have issues with Class. Many of your putdowns (to me, and others) over the years relate to Class.
why ?
17 Aug 2011, 23:57 pm
@JL1(JL1)-569:
it was lacking in Class.
17 Aug 2011, 23:58 pm
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-568: He will be back, he reminds me a lot of another number 7, Andre Venter
In NZ they would have played 6?
17 Aug 2011, 23:58 pm
Relax Joel we get the message. You just need one scapegoat I guess huh, and Jake White is out of the loop so you have chosen his captain… and JW’s other favourites Burger and FDP.
We get the message Joel.
17 Aug 2011, 23:58 pm
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-570: Yes, King Williams Town
17 Aug 2011, 23:58 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-567: lol self centered lard *** git. Well put hehe. He is utterly selfish and by always pretending to be the perfect high school head boy he shows that he is anything but. i have an instinctive mistrust for anyone who pretends to be utterly beyond reproach. Just like Hansie. brrr gives me the shivers. I prefer honesty thanks and John Smit is anything but.
18 Aug 2011, 00:00 am
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-568: “He was amazing at Soweto last year considering it was a comeback game from injury. Clean player too, which made him stand out in the Bok pack.
That is the mother of all insinuations.
Some would call it a whine.
18 Aug 2011, 00:00 am
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-571: well said mate I was just at the receiving end of one.
18 Aug 2011, 00:01 am

18 Aug 2011, 00:07 am
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-576:
Strange how so many people get fooled by this squeaky f’ng clean bullshitter bar none… and the players in the team KNOW IT.. watch them bust a gut when he’s not playing and when the f’ng lardass comes on its ALL f’ng FALLS DOWN AGAIN.
Self centered piece of lardass trash.. thats this squeaky clean Mr. Bigger than the game cancerous aura in the f’ng cauldron goon

how were the Bahamas .. pretty girls over there .. no ?? beauties all over the Caribbean
18 Aug 2011, 00:09 am
@JL1(JL1)-580:
No. Anyone who regularly refers to others as “living in Councils…slumtowns…under bridges” is living in an Ivory Tower.
Presumably you merely regard yourself as better than the Average Man, a fact your ego allows you to assume about others, other people that are faceless nameless bloggers.
Lose the Class trip, its totally lacking in class.
18 Aug 2011, 00:10 am
@JL1(JL1)-581: Gotta agree with Skop London aint a great place to grow old. I´m outside Barcelona on the Costa Brava – not because I abandoned Sa Skop but because my wife is from here.

The Greatest City in the World, no less.
18 Aug 2011, 00:13 am
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-591:
lucky you. Am a big fan of the Costa Brava. Wonderful golf courses (PGA & Emporda being some of my favourites). And that stretch north up to Cadaques is just magic.
18 Aug 2011, 00:14 am
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-589: Went to Barbados, stunning part of the world
Good music, good food, friendy people, the Island has got a heart beat
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-590: You still hurt about my comment way back?
OK, I apologise for those references as well
@Slumtown(Slumtown)-591: That is way better than Slummies. Do you know people from Selborne?
18 Aug 2011, 00:17 am
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-592:
I lived there once too knew it like the back of my hand …from east to west and back again…. nice place .. exciting city.. but not a place to settle down
18 Aug 2011, 00:18 am
@JL1(JL1)-594:
Dont flatter yourself.
Looking down your nose at anonymous bloggers hardly seems a becoming attribute.
But, this IS our version of ‘Peace’, no ?
18 Aug 2011, 00:19 am
@JL1(JL1)-594: a few but I havent been living there for over 20 years now. Spent almost 10 years between Joburg and Cape Town.
18 Aug 2011, 00:21 am
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-593: Yeah dont know much about golf myself though we know someone who used ot be in charge of pr for the golf club in Pals. Costa Brava is beautiful. The beaches are simply amazing and I can swim 50m without fear of being munched by a Great White. Spain is a beautiful country but has its own issues. I miss the people back home a lot. For all our flaws as Saffas we are pretty friendly and welcoming people with a good sense of humour.
18 Aug 2011, 00:22 am
@Black Panther(Black Panther)-596: I will have get to securities council to check that.
Please do not feel that I look down at you at all, as I said before, “sorry”
18 Aug 2011, 00:22 am
@JL1(JL1)-594: musta been great.. if I went there I’d fall in love 1000 times a day. Better I stay put here in Vishoek where the tannies change there false teeth in the morning before they hit the streets.
