Massive blow for Boks
18 Aug 2011
Juan Smith is out of the World Cup.
Smith sustained an Achilles injury during the Cheetahs’ Super Rugby campaign and has been in a race to regain fitness ever since. However, on Wednesday an emotional Smith confirmed to the Volksblad that he was withdrawing himself from the squad.
‘I am not 100%,’ Smith said. ‘I won’t be able to give everything and realise I should put my team, team-mates and the Bok fans first. I must stop lying to myself – what I’ve been doing these last three weeks – and realise that I’m not ready.’
The 30-year-old flank conceded that he has trained through considerable pain in recent weeks in the hope of representing the Springboks at his third World Cup. ‘The pain level that I have been practising with was seven out of ten,’ he explained. ‘I really cannot describe how disappointed I am…immensely.’
Smith has been central to the Springboks’ success in the last eight years, his powerful ball carrying and physical defence lending immense impetus to their cause. Springboks coach Peter de Villiers has consistently expressed fears about losing him and now has to attempt to fill the huge void he leaves.
De Villiers has intimated that Danie Rossouw will be the player to step in in the event of Smith’s unavailability. He isn’t short of talented options outside of the Bulls man, with Willem Alberts and Jean Deysel competent replacements. He could also opt to use Schalk Burger in the position, combining him with Heinrich Brussow and Pierre Spies in the back row.

As you’d already know… before the 3N started Henry said Thompson would be used/groomed in this tourney as the back-up for McCaw which yes will more than likely see four out of five of the loosies being blind-siders and 8′s… exactly the same as Aus…

the bulls should koop him.
18 Aug 2011, 13:29 pm
What a huge pity this grand player will not make it but he is a classic example of the decrepit player ; broken down due to advanced age
The pathological repair process in these players, as opposed to a 20 year old, takes so much longer to recover from anatomical trauma notwithstanding this specific injury.
We will probably see him play sometime next year in his farewell game if ever at all.
18 Aug 2011, 13:30 pm
@David(David)-201: you had me excied there….I am going to game so thought that was a bonus!

@stormersboy(stormersboy)-217:
hard to tell with the dodgy reception you get in french cars.
you thought you were listening to the province team announcement meanwhile they were trying to tell you that Robert Mugabe and Paris Hilton are very much in love and set to wed at a lavish ceremony at the Ermelo Holiday Inn.
18 Aug 2011, 13:40 pm
@grant10(grant10)-220: Absolutely. They have really hit their straps this CC. And that bearded freak gets better and better each game. Just goes to show the effect that winning a few tough ones can have. Suddenly there’s a glimmer of a “winning culture” at the Lions.
Amazing what a few months can do.
18 Aug 2011, 13:41 pm

Nick Fenton Wells at 6
Kolisi at 7

In the meanwhile, typically, life goes on in rugby-mad S. African pubs even in supposedly quiet Margate as is revealed below:
” Man dies after ‘racist’ pub attack
A Margate woman has related how she watched helplessly at the weekend as a group of “bullies” brutally assaulted her boyfriend because he had refused to give one of the men a cigarette. Their victim has now died.
Lungile Madanca, 24, and 26-year-old Lwandile Mampofu were at a pub in Margate at about 1am when the assault happened. She said it had started when Mampofu refused to offer a cigarette to one of the attackers.
Mampofu suffered multiple head injuries. He died about seven hours later at Port Shepstone General Hospital. ”
Strangely, not less than 3 weeks ago I mentioned both Margate and Port Shepstone to that neo-racist Rangerman, telling him that he was not aware what was happening in his own Natal backyard.
Unfortunately while most from this set of people wail about silly rugby the TRUTH never lies as racists ply their trade.

Juan hasn’t played much rugby since 2009, the Boks can’t possibly lose something they didn’t have?

@ET.(ET.)-225:
Inadvertently left out from this death report were the alleged killers:
” Petros Opperman, Dovin Christian van der Walt and Jakes Nicholas Putter were arrested in connection with Mampofu’s murder. ”
Do we dare to deem they are not rugby lovers, all? With rugby names like those who needs friends.
A ‘Bok frontranker and a ‘Bok wing had two of those surnames.
18 Aug 2011, 14:02 pm

they didn’t kill the oke because he was black … they killed him because he didn’t want to give them a cigarette ….same with farm murders … they don’t kill farmers because they are white, but because the murderers are f*cking animals!
