Massive blow for Boks
18 Aug 2011
Juan Smith is out of the World Cup.
Smith sustained an Achilles injury during the Cheetahs’ Super Rugby campaign and has been in a race to regain fitness ever since. However, on Wednesday an emotional Smith confirmed to the Volksblad that he was withdrawing himself from the squad.
‘I am not 100%,’ Smith said. ‘I won’t be able to give everything and realise I should put my team, team-mates and the Bok fans first. I must stop lying to myself – what I’ve been doing these last three weeks – and realise that I’m not ready.’
The 30-year-old flank conceded that he has trained through considerable pain in recent weeks in the hope of representing the Springboks at his third World Cup. ‘The pain level that I have been practising with was seven out of ten,’ he explained. ‘I really cannot describe how disappointed I am…immensely.’
Smith has been central to the Springboks’ success in the last eight years, his powerful ball carrying and physical defence lending immense impetus to their cause. Springboks coach Peter de Villiers has consistently expressed fears about losing him and now has to attempt to fill the huge void he leaves.
De Villiers has intimated that Danie Rossouw will be the player to step in in the event of Smith’s unavailability. He isn’t short of talented options outside of the Bulls man, with Willem Alberts and Jean Deysel competent replacements. He could also opt to use Schalk Burger in the position, combining him with Heinrich Brussow and Pierre Spies in the back row.

the All Blacks are to have a training session in Gelvandale Sports Ground this afternoon, in the heartland of their ardent fans, the so-called “coloured” community.
i’ve been trying to get hold of rosso to no avail.

I’m exaggerating about the testicular level.
But worst snow storm in 30 to 40 years, almost the length and breath of the Nation.
First snow in Wellington, at sea level since 76.

How so proud of your colonial ” maid ” and ” gardener ” even for the original ‘boer’ that is you.
The question is do you consider them someone’s mother or father and pay them a living wage?
Your Xhosa ‘speak’ is laughable whitie.

it reminds me of the midget cowboy who went to the doctor complaining of testicular discomfort whenever he walked.
the doc lifts him up to have a gander, whips out a pair of scissors and cuts away for a minute.
he then plonks the little fella on the ground and tells him to walk around.
amazed at being able to walk without hurting his nuts, he asks the doc what he did.
simple, replied the doc, I took two inches off the tops of your cowboy boots.

@ET.(ET.)-363:
incidentally, there was some oke from your old organization, you know that SACOS rugby or whatever u keep banging on about? the one with all the ordinary players that probably would not have amounted to much. anyway he was my aunt’s boyfriend at the time, he came accross for teas and schones, hell could’ve been you. this oke liked to talk alot of ****. after a while i figured ditch the tea and schones and just ply him with castles, great value.
18 Aug 2011, 15:47 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-381:
So let me get this straight. ET is laughing at Cab’s Xhosa, but it’s actually Zulu?
18 Aug 2011, 15:48 pm
@cane(cane)-372: I told you last year.. you were not listening/grasping my rants
18 Aug 2011, 15:48 pm
@David(David)-365:
He obviously will not tell us he learnt, on his bullying instincts and instigation, quite a few tricks from her.
That is the only part of him that comes across wisely, for rugby it clearly is not so as judged by his hero-worship of the likes of Burger, Bakkies Botha and John Smit.
18 Aug 2011, 15:48 pm
Where’s charo? The last time I laughed my head off was when he told a story about his financial chaps miscalculating a few things for four years and him having to suggest something to his board about dividends not being as generous as they thought they would be….
Is the oke still around…?
18 Aug 2011, 15:49 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-381:

18 Aug 2011, 15:51 pm
@Treehugger(Treehugger)-383: They’re both very good, but I have a particular soft spot for the Klein Babylons Toren.
Also, their Pumphouse Shiraz is worth every cent.

@ET.(ET.)-379:
A snowflake,
A thing of such beauty.
I agree 100% ET.
However it is best to visit such places, and leave the cleaning up to the locals.
